Finding "the one"

How long and how many cues did you guys buy before you found the one or something that feels good?
I have had about 5 cues over the last couple of years, unfortunately buying blind off ebay and just hoping, but to no avail.
Each of my cues has an attribute that I like, ie whippy shaft, butt diameter, length etc etc
But none of them has ALL of these, being in london there's few places with a selection of cues to try before you buy.

But back to my original question, how many cues have you had or how many can you remember!!

Loads mate a few glovers , a wooldridge a few Parris and Trevor White and 2 Robin cooks a few craftsman an exquisite and low and behold the one that was least expensive I bought from Darren Lowe is the one. It is an AD cue Alan Daily I think the maker is. Good luck trying its fun if you can afford it and can move on cues if they don't suit you

Like Renzie I have had loads (around 70 players) from a variety of makers and like you find things I like in each cue but not all in the one package. That said I do feel that I have nearly got it right with my latest Glover cue...........that would be even better with a smaller tip and a brass joint!

I am giving maple one last chance too just to be sure

Yeah the cheapest cue I have is about the closest to perfect I have found, just an inch too short, it's a 57" I need it a 58"
Looked into getting it lengthened but it's a no go, I'm tempted to save some cash for a couple months and go to Parris' shop and see if they have anything in the shop I can try. don't fancy waiting 2 years to get one made!

Lots of good cues and great guys on tsf that will help you find one mate what specs you looking for ?
Would be handy if you started a thread putting down the specs you are looking for , instead of two
years it could be two days.

Fairly standard specs, I just really want to try a cue before I part with my hard earned.
Maybe il drive up to craftsman or Gbl, long way from west london though!

First decent cue I had was mid 90s a 3/4 H&O, cost me £30! Eventually it wore out and I've been 11 years and 200 odd cues trying to replace it.

Closest I've got is a Mast I recently bought off Renzie. Unfortunately needs a bit of work but I can do that. Just the eyes and back arm to get into mid 90s condition now and I'm away.

As Renzie says its great fun but I'd pay £5k for someone to wave a magic wand and return that H&O to its original condition.

So remember kids LOOK AFTER YOUR CUES!

Is 20oz and whippy shaft fairly standard now? I've been away too long.

im also find grain from ash cue distract when feathering .from my experience if you switch to maple from ash and want to get similar feeling,you need to get a little bigger ferrule on maple cue,try it you might find the one.

Just ordered a GBL today. Just some minor changes to it and it is going out on Friday. 1 peice. I have a 3/4 GBL now. I hope this will be my last....LOL

I have found that I am no longer using the grain for sighting in any way so know that now I wouldnt miss it. I believe that this next cue is as good as maple gets and is bang on my specs so will be able to make a judgement one way or an another.

I've not really had many cues to find one I partcularly like, though I have had many cues from different cue makers just to gauge different levels of quality down the years.

Personally so long as a cue is within a certain spec, so for me that is anywhere between 57.25-58", 9.3-9.6mm tip, 17.75-18.5oz weight, I'm fairly comfortable within those specs. For me the problem that most players have is they never really give a cue a chance. They keep buying cues in the hope it transforms their game when the reality is the only way to improve is practice hard and stick with one cue. To be good at snooker you need to know the cue inside out, know how to execute every shot so that it become a natural instinct. Too many players think a cue can make them 3 blacks better but it just doesn't work like that.

So long as a cue is well balanced, not too whippy and not too stiff the rest is down to you.
