Hello Chaps and a Happy New Year to all of you!
Now after playing with an ash cue for over 30 years I have been, due to circumstances beyond my control....yes fellas a very acrimoniuos divorce, forced to change and whilst at Craftsman Cues here in Leeds stumbled upon an old cue that at first I thought was Maple. Now after about 20 mins of bashing the balls around on the very useful "try before you buy" practice table I realised I had potentially found a very nice unbadged handspliced cue. The feel was very responsive and I found I was potting the balls with ease and executing shots without much thought. Had I finally found "the one"? On enquiring with Dave Brown the shop owner he told me that it was indeed hornbeam, weighed just shy of 18 oz, length 58" and an 11mm tip. The splicing was a very attractive ebony rosewood ebony rosewood and the balance point was a nice forward 20". Upshot is that on parting with £130 (a very fair price I thought) I took her home to be given a little tlc and furnished with a Kamui Black Medium tip.
I since have only been able to attend my local snooker hall here in Morley due to a lower back injury, but am increasingly excited for the New Year and what I may be able to achieve with my new "wand". Is she the one? Only time will tell, but suffice to say I am as enthused as I ever have been by the prospect of using a cue made of a wood that I have never tried before, and wondered if any of my fellow TSF members had any thoughts or stories to draw upon about the same?
All the best
Glenn
