Cue shoulder damage

Hi,

I play 8ball pool. Recently I had my cue reduced in tip size from 8.5mm to 8mm.

Looking at my cue today it seems as if the shoulder of the cue (where the ferrule and wood meet) seems to be damaged. I'd also say one side of the ferrule seems to have daylight between the wood and brass whereas the other side is slightly sunk into the wood.

Anybody able to suggest any ways to repair this/stop it from getting worse ?

ferrules to thin now, no timber left to sit on needs a thicker wall ferrule

The ferrule may not have been seated squarely and the impact has driven the ferrule in to the shaft at that angle.

Do you break with the cue Kieran? Getting nicely through the cue ball on a break shot is a massive impact for a small tip (less than 8.5mm). I play pool with 7.25mm and never break with it, I use my snooker cue instead just for that one shot. If you don't fancy taking two cues out borrow a mates fof the break or use a club cue.

Yes I do break with it. Makes sense what you are saying, think I'll be borrowing a friends cue for breaking for the time being as you suggest. How do you find getting along with such a small tip ? What tip do you put on it I use elk master at the moment but have read good things about Mike wooldridge super tips, I'm just worried about cutting one down from 10mm to 8mm

I have played for years with a 7.25mm tip and originally had it taken down as my idols at various levels were playing with small tips and I wanted to be like them. Now it is a key part of my game and suits my action giving me good control of the white. There are a few players who play with smaller tips than me, one plays with about 6mm and even plays league snooker with it!

I use either MW Supertips or Brunswick Blue Diamonds (fine if you get a good batch) which both cope well with being taken down to that size as long as you use a good sharp blade for trimming and are careful with the fibres when shaping
