  • Wanted very rare cues.

    Hi there people.

New to the forum but after searching the forums etc I've decided to get back in to collection of vintage and rare cues and so far I've none from going from around 35 cues which of cause I sold a few years back.

What's seen as rare and hard to get it hold of now, at the time mine were the JD break cues which obviously sold but wondered if the Dawson, cue etc are hold to get hold of now

Depends in what you want to pay! Relatively easy to get hold of most cues from dealers if you want to pay a couple of times what you could sell them for.

You can buy Gordon Radford's auction price guide (available via eBay) which will tell you how often cues turn up and the average, min, max value.

The one thing it leaves out is that one key driver in the price rare cues go for is simply "does he have one". I'm only bitter!

Expect to pay at least 1.5-2 times auction value as retail though.

A Madam Strebor Picture cue is probably not cheap either.

            Any idea of value?

            Thanks!

            I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

So what would a £300-400 rare cue be worth today? Have values dropped since then or gone up a lot?

I have heard that values have dropped a bit lately but not for the rare cues. Is this right?

since that means it would be a glover cue £175 would be very cheap. should be £350 plus. a real one more like a grand.

I've spent a few bob, but still a long way behind many people (Jim for one!!).
For a machine spliced Lindrum champion picture cue you could get a lovely example £50-60, hand spliced maybe £80-£120 (some of the hand spliced have really nice stripey/macassar butts and sell really well - I've sold them up to £175). The younger picture badge cue, again £70-100 for a nice machine spliced cue, never seen a handspliced one - apparently in Gordon's guide he's seen 3 but no prices are listed.

I'm watching this cue at the moment and not knowing to much I'm not sure what the going rate for one of these are, it could be the start of my collection.
