  • Try before you buy in / near Edinburgh - 8 ball cues

Hey, I'm looking to get my first 8 ball cue but am struggling to find somewhere which sells decent cues where I can try them out first. I don't own a cue at the moment so don't know exactly what i'm looking for so think buying a cue unseen is a terrible idea. Does anybody know somewhere that I could try out different cues & buy one? It doesn't need to be in Edinburgh, just somewhere within a reasonable train journey (i don't drive) so glasgow, dundee etc.

I didn't realise how much I needed a new cue until recently. Was playing pool in a pub and the guy I was playing with let me use his cue. It was a lot lighter than the pub cues with a smaller tip and drastically improved my game. Problem is I don't know what make, weight, length, tip size etc it was so I'd need to find somewhere I can try out different cues to find one that suits me. With my 30th coming up I was thinking about getting a nice one and my budget is about 200 - 300. Any thoughts?

Renzie would be a wise choice, He might see this, or you need 10 posts to P.M. him.

I'm sure the best advice to someone buying their first pool cue (and coming from a pub bat..) is you don't need to be spending £200-£300 on a cue! Any cue at all is likely to be better than what you're using, so spending so much money after trying one out for a very short time doesn't seem a good idea to me...

Haha, yeah, you guys are probably right. I originally came to this site looking at peradon and cue craft cues as these were all that seemed to be available online (other than generic JJB sports type cues). Problem was, after reading far too many posts talking about the poor quality of peradon cues and then looking at far too many pictures of nice cues on here I started fancying a better cue.

Figured since I have the money right now I'd get something nice and call it a 30th birthday present. Its also a psychological thing i think - if I spend more on a cue I think i'd play a lot more to get my moneys worth. At the same time though, even if I just get a 50 quid cue, i have the same problem about not being able to try it out first. So if your advice is to start with a cheap cue, what are the better makes etc?

Hi Iain, the Shandon have a display cabinet with cues and cases and all sorts of snooker stuff for sale. Not sure about the cues but their Peradon Halo cases are worth a look. I have one. Renzie is well worth checking out for a cue. Worth considering 2nd hand if he has anything that suits.
