Engineering plastics (ie. PBT, ABS) for ferrules

Has anyone tried using such materials for cue making and for playing?

What has the feedback been like?

I've been experimenting for a while with some plastics. The biggest problem is finding a plastic that will glue well enough to hold a tip.
I've found the best to be nylon 6. Very strong and glues OK. I spoke about this a while ago just before Mike brought out his black spin. Not sure what Mike uses.
I've also been experimenting with some for joints.

In theory, the less mass at the end of your cue, the less deflection when applying spin. Did you notice any difference using nylon 6?

Wooldridge's blackspin reduces deflection massively, I'm a convert, just wish he could do them in tiny sizes for my pool cue! Anyone know how much he charges to retrospectively fit them to other cues?

Yes I did notice a big difference. Like I say, not sure what Mike uses but I assume its either nylon 6 or very similar as many plastics don't glue well at all.

It was a lot !! think about £75 plus postage both ways, but think you also got cue refurbed within that price

I got him to retro fit my Jason Own cue, which is 8.5mm at the tip, and I use for pool, but I take it you like 'em even smaller ?

i smell the revival of the white collar joints.

better yet, black ones.

i think reception for such joints, extension and extension joints should be quite positive.

imagine a mini butt or extension made entirely out of them, they are so durable that i can stick to one piece cases.

I've probably repaired forty of those white collar joints over the years. Granted in the 3/4 split area where you can have thicker wood and plastic they would be strong enough. I'd certainly have a black collar around the "invisible" joints for protection.
