    Came across Tigre Caspi which is linked to as being similar to the marblewood. The Tigre Caspi looks more like it to me now.

      Been picking the brains of hardwood dealers on twitter and general consensus is that it is south American Tigerwood aka marblewood, most likely from Peru. Fairly uncommon but used for food bowls and chopping boards like this one as its non-toxic, doesn't crack and apparently glues, turns and polishes relatively easily.

      I'm going to cut it across the grain and will splice a bit on to an ebony butted ash cue I've made this weekend. Will stick a pic up when it's done.
