  • Altering a cue

I've just got a an old Northwest cue - lovely cue but just a an 1 1/2 inch too short.

I'm contemplating sending it away to Coutts / Andy Travis etc to have it spliced to had the extra length.

Adding length is a matter of chance if it seriously affects the feel of the cue - sometimes it 'kills' the cue sometimes you couldn't tell its been lengthed... but the question I have is; if I did have it lengthened is it good form to have the original badge re-fitted even though the cue isn't 'original'.

I suppose if I were to sell it in the future I'd tell the buyer it was modded, but is it ok to have the original badge put back on?

Have you considered selling it to someone who'll play with it as it is then putting the cash towards a cue that suits your specs? You'd effectively be turning a good cue in to a donor cue! I personally think its wrong to refit the badge as its no longer a Northwest cue and although you may tell the person you sell it to, they may not pass the message on.

sell the cue on as is and then get something more suited to you.

will be worth a lot more in the condition it is now than if you get it messed with and splices added to lengthen it

I agree unless it's a perfect shaft. Much better to sell it and buy a cue with the right specs
