Looks pretty clear down most of the shaft, the finish is decent though could be smoother so think i'll take some wire wool to it later and give it an oiling. Only really gave it a quick look over before heading out but for the price im really surprised.
When I sanded mine back it had flecks of brown in it but I do mean flecks, no way nearly enough not to be able to call it black ebony, maybe I didn't sand it enough lol, doesn't really matter though even if it's not the highest quality of ebony, it's how it plays.
I didn't get customs charges ,wasn't opened and it came wrapped the same as Narls.
It's a little heavier than my other cue with a different finish on the butt, it's not varnished on the butt like my other one. Balance is fine, I think lol, never really had a cue that didn't feel balanced, I don't really get it. My only problem is it squeaks a bit on my bridge, I sanded and oiled the business end so I think it should be fine once that settles in.
In the middle of giving mine a refinish, 400\600\800\1200 grits then oiled it, letting it soak in for half hour or so then reapplying tomorrow. Seemed silky smooth after the sanding.
Few pics, hits the ball well and gets quite a bit of reaction for spin shots. There's a little nick off one of the splices as you can see in the bottom pic. When i first got the cue that bit of grain above the splice was a bit rough feeling so redone the whole cue using the grades of paper in the above post with a few coats of oil and now its silky smooth. I would have swore the butt was a lacquer finish if i hadn't redone it myself so feels a bit different to the waxed butt finish of parris cues.
Overall for £56 its a really nice cue. Though i do have a beyond on order from Ton Praram so be interesting to see how that is.
You have made my mind up Narl, I'm going to try a maple one of these, I'm still loving my ash one, I don't know how they can use black ebony at this price .

I've no clue either i was half expecting to see the ebony lose its colour after the sanding indicating a dye but it didn't which surprised me. Maple is definitely far less distracting than ash i find, after using a maple cue the grain on ash seems to catch my eye all the time. Was easily getting as much if not more spin on the ball with this compared to an ash cue. Only real difference is the hit sound being different as its a denser wood.
Yep when I scratched mine I expected to get below the dye, then I sanded it and at best expected patchy ebony but it's as good as any other cue I have seen, they seem to know what they are doing with a shaft as well I have never had so much reaction. The arrows wouldn't look out of place on any top cue and the side grain is straight and tight.
Just noticed on eBay there is another seller ,sport0007 , they don't have as much of a choice as sun mall.
