Thankyou for your considerate and kind reply Andi. You must be a wise old bird if your player is an AT. I know that proper UK businesses do have to pay tax and I applaud JP for employing staff, paying them properly and paying his taxes to help support the country. He sends receipts, he's no scammer. So his cost per cue will naturally be higher but I do consider some of that chunk to be excessive. This is why I pointed to CJ who does everything above board, it's all hand made, takes many more hours to construct a cue than a Parris and he charges 750 tops. If JP chopped a couple hundred off the price, he'd be making less and have orders going 5yrs into the future. He charges a fair market price because folk will pay it but as for value, I'd say that there's more value in many other cues. I just don't see how JP, MW, etc can make a better cue than CJ and TW (who charges around 600) a cue, and especially AT (400) and TP (300).

Don't forget JP is in london so his prices will instantly be higher to cover that (higher rates and wages). MW isn't a one man band either and has staff to pay unlike like CJ & TW etc. Don't forget if you employ staff, you have to have insurances, pay their wages (+ pensions & NI contributions etc) and they probably have to have an accountant / book keeper to sort sort the wages, tax & ni etc out.

Also there is a bit of the brand factor JP, MW & TW are pretty much considered the best in the field (granted there are lovers and haters for each especially JP). And with the reputation comes a bump in price like nike vs reebok etc.

Where as CJ is widely regarded as one of the best case makers around, he is still "relatively speaking" a new boy on the block to cue making, so his reputation is still growing.

AT is probably undercharging for the quality of his work (imho), but he sets his prices.

At the end of the day, i'm just glad there are as many British cue makers around as there are. Plus with the quality and pricing of the Thai makers etc, If they don't find what they are looking for in the British market then they have plenty of other options. Imho, it gives people plenty of choice at various price points to pretty much suit everyone.

Yeh through customs no probs...

It needs a slight re finish and oiling to get it as smooth as my trev, yeh. But damn, for the money I can't believe how good this cue is.

Nice splice work, nice feel, well balanced. Lovely shaft.

I need to hit a ball with yet to have a proper feel, but the only neg i can give it at the moment is the badge isn't fitted too well on this particular cue. but for the price. Wow.. It has a similar feel in the hand spec wise to my trev so if it strikes nicely i should get on with it just fine as a player.

Let em know the western market prefers an oil finish. Or maybe they can offer both finishes, oil or lacquer. Will only help their sales. If that cue actually plays like a Trev (and it wouldn't surprise me as he prefers stiff ash), wow, a lot of folk might cash their Trevs in. lol

It's not on trevs level of craftsmanship but for the money. It's quite unbelievable.

I dunno what the finish is on this cue, it certainly isn't lacquered like some of their emperor range looks. It has hardly anything lacquer wise or whatever it is.

A little fine sanding and a good oil the cue will be spot on feel wise.

I did tell them about that with the last cue, maybe that's why I'm getting blanked lol.
My cue isn't stiff at all, it has quite a bit of top end flex, but you don't feel it when playing.
