  • Vintage cues

Hi. I'm looking to buy a vintage cue for playing as I'm not really a collector. I haven't seen much on ebay, where are the best places to look? My budget is around 100-150. Had my eye on this one intially, but not sure if it's worth it now there have been a few bids. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/281385644234?nav=SEARCH

For some reason I've always preferred playing with older cues, doesn't have to be brand specific. Guess I'll keep my eyes open in the classifieds. Cheers!

Vintage cues can play brilliantly and be absolute bargains, so perhaps take a look at some vintage cue websites for inspiration....

          http://www.oldcues.co.uk/

          http://www.thecuecollector.com/

          http://www.vintagebilliards.co.uk/

Once you've found a particular cue style you like begin searching on ebay and perhaps ask here if anyone has one available, you may be surprised at what people have hanging around. I had this delivered this week from a member here for £82.

After a bit of my time giving her a retaper and a complete refinish she know looks like this and is to my perfect specs and taper...

Depends on your spec as well.

I've got a Tom Newman 1370 champion cue ( far left ) which is very nice, and 57.7" long,

and an EJR full Snakewood cue ( center ) which is 56.25" long .

They're both at top of your budget though.

I play with a vintage cue I got from ebay. It was fully refurbished and it plays fantastic! Only had it a month and knocked in my two highest breaks with it!

Same guy is selling one at the minute

                    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REFURBISHE...item1c432bed3a

If that was maple I prob would have bought it too, although it is a little on the light side.

                    Good luck with the search!

These are both lovely cues indeed and Billabong is a good chap to deal with.

Cannon Match Cues are very attractive cues and are generally good players so these are a good choice. There is one on ebay at the moment for £150.

Great thread! I always wanted to ask what would be the best vintage cues to use as a player, as a rule are they generally stiffer ?
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Each cue is different. Some are only for collecting and others make great players. No hard and fast rules apply.

Part of the fun of collecting antique cues is finding the good ones. Plenty of crap old cues too.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

I guess that Sunday Express badge is helping this cue along ?? as it would usually struggle to reach half this value ????
