Once you've found a particular cue style you like begin searching on ebay and perhaps ask here if anyone has one available, you may be surprised at what people have hanging around. I had this delivered this week from a member here for £82.

After a bit of my time giving her a retaper and a complete refinish she know looks like this and is to my perfect specs and taper...

Please excuse my ignorance, but are these cues made with ebony, or are those splices painted on(sorry if I'm being a bit rude lol) it's just the cues I have seen with painted splices have those very sharp and thin tips to the splice fingers.

Perhaps a lacquer finish, instead of oil finish ?

My Tom Newman cue has a lacquer finish ( butt only, ) and looks similarly shiney.

Did I mention I had a Tom Newman cue up for grabs ?

I've got a Tom Newman 1370 champion cue ( far left ) which is very nice, and 57.7" long,

and an EJR full Snakewood cue ( center ) which is 56.25" long .

They're both at top of your budget though.

I have no idea either!... it's not 'ze aussie' either, perhaps the seller is bidding it up.

Not rude at all mate. These cues that have these sharp pointed fingers are machine spliced from a single piece of wood and then fitted to the shaft. This one is solid ebony and is a very good fit, however some are poor grade ebony or other hardwoods that are painted/died/varnished to a dark appearance and when you remove the lacquered finish it is not uncommon to find some large gaps that have been filled and hidden.

You may well have seen some cues where the shaft has a painted butt, there are also versions painted to look like hand splicing too.

Bill, do you have a Tom Newman cue for sale?

Mine did have a lacquer finish but that has been all stripped back now and what you see in my pictures on the table is an oil finish.

I most certainly do have a Tom Newman cue for sale. :snooker:

and that is one nice oil finish.

In fact, with the exception of the Glover rep, all the cues in the picture are for sale.
