  • Question

    Hi all,

I have 2 questions that would need help with.

    1. I believe most of us watch snooker videos so I'll get straight to the point. What chalk holders do they use? Because I see that they just place their chalks either into the small pocket of their vest of just drop it into their pants. I don't remember seeing them ever get the chalk stains on their hand when taking the chalk out. For the vest part, I kinda thought it might be the small pocket is able to fit a cube of chalk nicely but what about the pants they're wearing? Or they just throw the chalk inside? I don't see them having a magnetic base on the chalk so I believe a magnetic chalk holder should be out of the question.

    2. I always realized this from certain cue models. Some Thai cues, when you play a harder shot, you'll hear a high "ping" sound being produced. Basically the sound is like a miscue but its not. Is it because the classic models cue shaft ain't as good that's why its like that? I don't really know how to explain properly but I'll show a video instead. Start watching at 7.10. The sound is at 7.14

Erm, cue tip was both a new buffalo diamond+. I actually also thought it was because of the cue tip but doesn't seem to me it is. I actually did a comparison between a Thai cue(classic series) and UK cue(classic series). The UK one doesn't produce such a sound though.

So if its very dry, it would produce such sounds?

As for the chalk holder, when I have a waistcoat on I use the side pocket and when I have no vest on I use a chalk pouch.

I don't know why some of the pros use their trouser pocket for the chalk as I found when doing that you end up chewing that pocket to shreds. As they only wear those trousers when they play perhaps they have the pocket smaller but I still think it would be very hard on the pocket.

My waistcoat does not suffer any damage from the chalk and I only buy them if they have pockets.

Would you be so kind to enlighten me, what are the benefits of having a drier timber?

So basically the professionals also more or less use the same kind of chalk holders like us?

Goodness, it's not only at 7:14min... Chang's cue got that "ping" sound period... Sounds horrid to me. It's like playing with a loose ferrule or joint.

But where is this place? Malaysia?

I have no idea. Should be in Thailand since its Niche academy I guess?

My Mastercue Classic on some harder shots will also have this sound.

Non. Its just that timber is either kiln or air dried to a certain amount to prevent warpage
