  • Whether to change a good playing cue??

I kind have a dilemma on my hands!!

I currently play with a Tom Newman 1274 (Tony Glover Rep) and it's unreal the way I play with the cue from the short time owning it which was another forum members playing cue also.

The problem is the cue is suited to snooker but my current snooker side have folded due to work commitments and a few of the team members are joining the local 8 ball pool league.

Do I get the cue altered to pool specs or leave as it is and sell the cue on!!

Opinions wanted on what I should do??

    Thanks

Ive altered cues, length and tip size from snooker specs to pool and never had a problem. Thats ash, i dont know if maple is different. 3/4 cues, not a 1 piece tho. Get someone who is very good at altering cues to do tho, if you decide to do.
I have no idea what the value of your cue is, but reducing the tip size to say 8.5mm will reduce the value of your cue as not many snooker players want a small pool size tip, and as adr once said, pool players are tight!!lol
Maybe keep your cue as is and get a cheap pool cue and see how you get on with a smaller tip, I know a few very good pool players who play with snooker spec cues (9.5mm tip).

You can play good pool with most have decent cues with your choosen specs , i would never alter a nice cue that much , if you dont want to sell them keep it ,chances are you,ll start playing snooker again .

Why bother changing it to pool specs, why not leave the cue as is and play with it, have seen to many people either change cues or modify to 8 or 8.5 mm and never get on with that cue or ruin there game all together.

If you have an excellent playing cue, Never, NEVER sell it, alter it or stop using it until you absolutely have to! You will never find another cue that treats you so well, and if you start wittling it down it will hate you for it and punish you accordingly, and if you start cheating on it with skinnier cues it will never want you back!
You can pick up really nice cues which have been altered already to pool specs dirt cheap off ebay (as previously mentioned because pool players are cheap!) if and when the time comes that you feel theres shots you just can't play with the bigger tip.
No one is listening until you make a mistake!

Before doing anything, i would try playing pool in its current form

The spec of the cue is ash one piece 57.5 inches long 9.8mm tip 16.5 ounces but not certain but the cue is light.

I have pics of the cue but they will not let me upload them
