  • Padauk and Ebony Cue wanted

So I'm looking to get another cue made. However I am very picky. Some of the cue makers will agrees with me on this. I have a very specific request. One which isn't easily rectified it seems. I'm looking for a cue with a full padauk butt. But I want the fingers of the splice to be ebony. So it would be padauk spliced over ebony. I would prefer a one piece.

My ideal specs are as follows
    Shaft Ash
    Length 58"
    Weight 17.5oz
    Tip 9.75mm
    Preferably round butt
Extras Padauk mini butt and tele extension.

Price wise I'm not looking at spending a fortune. £400 is my limit.

I know I'm asking a lot, the chances of finding what I want for sale are slim to none. I'm happy to have one made for me, regardless of the waiting list time.

I would ask Andy Travis, he seems to be very quick, and his cues are looking really good

I asked him about it a while ago. And he said that he couldn't splice the ebony and padauk like I want unless it was a 3/4 split. And I'd really like to go back to a one piece

So are you wanting normal ebony finger splices onto the shaft, then paduak fingers over the top of that ??

wouldn't you just use an ebony veneer?

That's what I originally thought. I asked a few cue makers. They all said that they either couldn't do it. Or didn't have enough padauk.

My choice was either padauk or bocote. Padauk was always my 1st choice and will remain so until I get one

Am I missing something or this not a straight forward design??

As far as I'm aware it's straight forward. However I'm not a craftsman so my knowledge is very vague. All I want is a one piece cue in padauk and ebony. Instead of normal length splices of secondary wood, I'd like them around an inch shorter than the ebony.

In which case I don't see what the problem is. If I had the time I wouldn't have problem making it

Feel free to drop me a P.M if you do find the time. I've been looking for a while now and not had any luck.

Do you mean this but slightly longer padauk?

The ebony or rather to top of the tips was a long 23" and I asked for the padauk to be spliced to the start of the ebony fingers so the padauk would have been about 18"

I was told at the time that either splices could be any length.

The design is there, but the padauk isn't as bright and colourful as my request would be. If you remember Jason Owen made one. Cue 31. That was lovely and I want that replicated.
