The padauk was a lot brighter/redder in real life than this pic

Ill send over another email when I get in. Perhaps I didn't explain to him properly what I was after.

Jasons cue was based on an old Hixons cue , circa late 1920s early 1930s , that I sold to Jim as a matched pair , 1 x Ash and 1 x Maple . They were truly beautiful cues and the Padauk was very vivid in colour , but not easy to replicate , good luck in your search.

Great choice Hunter! I had never owned a cue with Padauk splices before but recently bought a cue from Shane Raynor who is on this forum. When I got the cue the light was shining on the Padauk and it is a stunning deep red which seems to sparkle under the light. I loved it so much I immediately messaged Shane to ask him what the wood was. A full butted Padauk cue will look amazing, good luck.
I think I am correct in saying that Padauk starts off really red and gradually darkens over the years, a bit like Purple Hart wood which also darkens over time.

Thanks all. Andy has made me a Purple Heart and Olivewood cue before. And that was a very nice cue. I'm hoping he can fulfil my needs again. I've been itching for a while to get a new cue, however after the last lot of emails I sent out I gave up and stuck with a club cue that was close to my specs. But it's maple and I really do prefer ash.

I'm pretty sure I could do that for you. MAC CUES are in my opinion as good as any. I've also did a lot of repair work on very expensive cues from HK customer.
I will check today but I'm sure my supplier has Padauk in at least 16".
              Cost would be around ÂŁ350-ÂŁ400.
Let me know what minimum length of padauk is to be and we will take it from there.
              Thanks
              Richy.

I would like standard length of Ebony, and the Padauk to be around an inch lower. I'm not looking for any extra long splices or anything wild like that. I just want the padauk outlined with ebony.

I've seen some of his work, and have no doubt about that.

Purpleheart can go darker with age and returns to a more purple-brown colour , but that can be slowed down with a UV stabilised finish , as I believe it is the UV in natural light that causes the change . UV stabilised finishes have been shown to keep most , if not all , the brightness and colour in timber and is often used by wood turners to preserve the colour and finish . I do not know if the same can be said of Padauk , although the cues I had were stunning and still bright in colour , perhaps a cue maker could add helpful incite into this.

purpleheart just goes a daeker purple unless you work it ie sanding, padouk stays very much the same after sealing and oiling,

Richy gave me a quote that was very competitive. And one that I coudn't refuse. I've ordered the following

Shaft: Laminated maple (has chevrons like an Ash cue)
                          Length: 58"
                          Tip: 9.7-9.8mm
Butt Dia: 29mm (round if possible)
                          Weight: 17.5oz
                          Butt: Padauk over Ebony
Extras Paduak mini butt and tele extension

I'm very picky when it comes to the shaft. So when Richy showed me the laminated Maple shaft my eyes shot open. Now I won't have to worry about wether or not the grain is straight enough. My eyesight isn't the best. Even with contact lenses, I sometimes find it difficult to line up shots correctly. I use straight chevrons to aid me with my aiming. This should help out an awful lot, as i've been using a Maple cue rectly, and have been relying on my eyesight along to line up shots.
