I think I tried a maple one once it was mainly brown on the butt and I think yellow and red splices on it I think - cant quite remember but it had a square silver plate as a badge that had a Rex Williams signature on it - it was only cheap but actually played very well indeed surprisingly.

Hi Gary this cue, the fourth over is probably what youve got. Yeah it was the top of the range here in 1986,87, a real beauty!DSCN0310.gif

I remember when i bought a cue from Greaves sports shop in glasgow about 20 years ago they had a rex williams original cue in a glass cabinet and it was over £200 pounds. And as i remember the cue looked awful ! The butt looked very bad wit very thin ebony or what looked more like paint covered with about 100 layers ov varnish to hide any blemish in the wood. Now i am not saying all these cues looked this bad but this one they had for sale looked crap so i bought the much better looking 1 piece maple connoisseur. Not played for 3 years and itching for a game....11-3-2017.

I purchased mine new approx 35 years ago I think I paid £150 at the time. May have been a crime but I had Sheriden Cues at Sheffield put me a 3/4 joint in it. I was disappointed I never got my signed certificate with it! I also have a framed A4 advert for it in the loft.
I always looked after it and it's still like new no dings. I tried dozens of cues at the time, mainly £70 PowerGlide Purist they were really nice and powerful getting lot's of reaction on the cue ball, but the Original was worth the extra not just in terms of feel but it's one of the best looking wood grains I ever saw.

Lol - I just found a website that calculates how much yesterday's money is worth compared to today for any particular year. RW Original in 1980 equates to over £650 today and the Purist cues would sell for £300!
