Ding is just being facetious IMO and why would you even ask for the makers badge to be removed anyway if you want him to custom make a Cue for you? It is almost like if he got asked " Who makes that Cue " he could say anything and no one would be none the wiser while the name he just dropped gets a massive boost regardless if they made it or not.

If i was Coutts i would do the exact same thing and also take it as a bit of an insult that the player wants your badge removed. Arguing whether or not he was right in discussing the issue on Facebook is debatable but i do not see a problem with it and put yourself in the Cue makers shoes and what he is trying to achieve here as a business owner and professional Cue maker in a hard market to crack.
I think this is the mistake that people are making here. Ding is not like players on this forum who will be looking to heap praise or give credit to another cue maker, I doubt he has a hidden agenda behind this decision to have the badge removed. He simply for one reason or another doesn't want to have a badge on the cue. Maybe he is very superstitious, he has played most of his career with a stamford without a badge on it, we know its a stamford so why the big deal over the badge not being fitted? Its not as if its ever going to be visible to the viewers when he is playing because you literally need to be a standing right next to him in order to make out the badge on any cue!

Points considered but i am not buying it.

WTF is his problem?? There is a badge on his Cue....... Oh FFS get over it and unless you yourself can make Cues you will be relying on others to make them for you and they do this for a living and deserve the credit they get by having a Top player use one of them. Asking for the Cue makers badge to be removed is rubbish and you are effectively robbing him of other sales and reputation.

Saying that everyone knows his last Cue was a Stamford and that had no badge is clutching at straws to support his argument and i never knew and i follow the sport.

      Superstitious my arse!! lol
If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???

Also if people are interested to see what others are saying in relation to this that also side with Coutts...

Far too polite Dave. "F*ck off" is all they'd get from me

Interesting discussion Coutts cue for Ding Junhui!

Really don't see the issue here. Ding asked for a cue in a specific way. Dave didn't want to do it (completely his choice) so ding rep cancelled the order simples no one was hurt and Dave got some free publicity

Cause he stands up for himself and speaks his mind??

I have no problem with this and good on him.

The world is to politically correct these days and gone are the days when you can call a spade a spade sadly. I fully support these blokes who have given their life to making quality hand made Cues and they have put more on the line for their business than any Internet keyboard hero taking potshots from his living room on forums like this.

Specific way = " Dave i want you you to make me a Cue but i do not want anyone to know you made it and can you remove the badge "...... Meh GTFO of here i would of told him.

Who cares if the badge is on it and what the hell does it matter to Ding???? Unless he has ulterior motives which is debate able right now but who cares if the Cue makers badge is on a Cue that you asked them to make for you.

Ding asking for it to be removed is way more alarming and more of a talking point than Coutts denying his badge be removed from his own Cue IMO.

The other question is .....Has he asked the other Cue Makers to remove their badges from the cues ? If not , why does he want this one with no badge ?

Interesting discussion Coutts cue for Ding Junhui!

Wow chappy you seem quite upset about this subject.

My point is ding asked for something which dave didn't want to provide. That's every day dealings not just relevant to cues. I don't see proof of any ulterior motive. I see stranger requests on this forum daily!
Agree with the original postings though dave still shared this news with everyone on fb? He couldn't left dings name out of it and said a customer... Etc

Surely a cue without a badge would be worthless to resell...especially since it would be a guaranteed loss since a hand made dave coutts cue would be at the top end in terms of price..
