You could pick the sapling you want the shaft cutting from given Coutts cues waiting time.

Well its surtenly a luxury, if you live in the UK when you look for a new cue.

I think that what Dave is trying to say (albeit politely) is that by seeing the "whole shaft" you are able to ensure the cue will at least be spliced up by the maker / person in question, and, that it's not a pre-made (imported) cue being finished and sold as one made here in the UK.

I wouldn't care if cuemakers did do as I think Thai cues are excellent

You are entitled to your view on that, and yes, some Thai cues are exceptional.

i was thinking along the lines of if the cue shaft length to be looked at is ether 49 or 60". where would you say the shaft starts trevs? anyway im sure dave would let you choose your own shaft
