Same with these people who have a fixation on perfect even chevrons on cues when the reality is the supposedly best cuemakers in the world like wooldridge or Trevor White very rarely their cues turn up with these
I'm assuming things being pleasing to the eye is of more importance to some than to others. A bit like spending good money on a sports car. Even though it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to it's performance, I'm assuming that a lot more people would still rather have it in red as opposed to pink with yellow dots.

Sod how the cue plays I want a well known badge
It makes perfect sense to buy from a well known maker for resale value! Because buying blind without trying the cue means highly unlikely it will suit you

Yep, plus some people have more than 1 x cue / sportscar / insert analogy here.
I've got usually 3-6 cues in my possession at any one time. Logically of course you can only use 1 at a time,
but I just like buying nice cues.

I think I've wrote it in a way that it's not came across how it was meant to. A bit like people swerving the lesser cuemakers, i think I'll get my coat

to be honest ,, when I said they re qualitatively different ,, I meant that Thai ash are usually better !!! misunderstanding ?? anyway , many thanks for rplay and info !!!
If "ready built shaft" the cue should be , customised , normally cheaper option .
If "taper the shaft from square wood block" should be called as - handmade .
Some people feel the cue is overprice if customised cue almost same price with handmade cues .
That's why old Hunt O'Byrne are high price compare to current Will Hunt .
Taper & feel of the shaft is so different .
Every chef/cue maker has special taste if cook by himself from start .
a thought for you - the current will hunt cues that are part made in thailand are far far better than the old H&O cues - really miles better. maybe another way of looking at it is this - john parris does not plane all the cues himself by hand he has staff who do that for him, in the case of will hunt the staff he employs are in thailand but it still has to pass his quality control.
I had a bit of a debate last night regarding the quality of the Thai cues, and came up against the argument that cues made in this country and in our climate are less likely to warp, split, etc. Have to say he had me convinced, but he was comparing cheap Thai cues to old peradon and riley cues you can pick up for the same price. Would there be any strength to the argument that a cue finished entirely in this country have a better survival rate as it were?
The only cue I've never had a hit with is a Andy travis cue, all the rest the Wooldridge, white, parris etc and haven't came across one that I could say plays as good as my trusty GBL. that's just me though not saying everyone else would feel the same.

Mmmm let's see now. The current Will Hunt cues are around £360 for green plate.
I'll take any of those old H & O cues you have Andrew. I presume they'll come in at less

That's exactly right Leo, all this discussion of who makes the best cue is pointless, as every cue is different and everyone's opinion of how a cue should feel or play is different, even cues from the same maker made to the same specs will be different, so what's the point in comparing two makers if one maker can't guarantee you he could make the exact same cue twice.
Think I'm gonna go for a J.O. read mostly good stuff of his cues. something like nr 93 I think. don't find much over grice cues. although there very nice on the pics .
