    Well said sberry.
I actually received a telling of once from Trevor White on here about expressing my views on this but I am of the strong opinion that your equipment should reflect your ability. A cue from one of the top makers not gonna make an ounce of difference to a player of my ability and would just make me look foolish if I would rock up with one down my local con club and then proceed to chip the white about with it all evening. I believe a top cue should be something you aspire to own as you improve as a player, to be treated as a reward if you like. But not necessarily if your knocking in tons with your cheap club cue and you're happy with it. There's a term that's used in racing reserved for all them rich kids who turn up with all the expensive gear and then drive like my granny. It's called "all the gear and no idea" and nothing looks more ridiculous in my opinion.

ADR147 had some nice Brittania and O'min cues that would not be that much above your budget if you want a new cue, or just keep an eye out on eBay for a Butters or a decent used cue, if you buy second hand you normally wouldn't lose much if you don't like it. A member of my team bought a maple woods package recently, it has a slight bend and the maple has marks on it but he likes it. The Woods 3 star cues seem well respected on here and you find them within your budget on eBay, so if you want a Woods I would look for one of them.

I have a very nice new Butters cue if you are interested. It is one of his nicest butt jointed cues, eighty pounds plus a tenner delivery ( UK mainland )

No disrespect to average players and it's entirely up to them what they spend their hard earned cash on, but you find these days it's these players who you'll see walking into clubs with their Trevor Whites, JP ultimates etc where the better player has stuck with the same cue for years. the way I see it is more people don't buy these expensive cues because they think it will make them play better, many enjoy buying them as it's like a hobby which is fair enough and nothing wrong with that

That's exactly what Trevor said. I appreciate where you're coming from Leo, I guess there's two ways of looking at it. People are entitled to spend their money on whatever they like by all means, I haven't got a problem with that but sometimes it has the opposite effect.

Yeah I'm not expecting to play better with an expensive cue, it's something I would quite simply like to own anyway these woods 3 star cues how do I know it's woods 3 star as apposed to just plain woods cues because I can't seem to find any 3star on ebay? What am I looking for ? Might be heading toward those butters cues though lots of positive reviews on here.

You can always email him to have 1 handmade by him. I have his cue before and it hits pretty sweet to me. Like what the name of his range says, 3 stars basically has 3 stars on the badge.

I wanted to own a Mike Wooldrigde cue for a long time, don't know why, just do. But here's the thing, I don't want to just go and order one, I want to earn the right to do so. Money doesn't come into it. Cue makers spent a lot of time and effort into getting you exactly what you want and in my opinion their prices reflect that. They earned the right to ask for good money in exchange of their time, effort and skills. And to be honest, everything taken into account, I don't think the price for one of the top makers cue's is at all that unrealistic. I my time as a race mechanic I have spent countless sleepless nights and weekends working on cars trying to get them perfect because that's what you signed up for. The thing is though, it's more than just a job and with a good driver behind the wheel it's rather quite enjoyable and you love doing it, but with a less than average driver then the whole thing becomes much more of a chore. You still put the exact amount of time and effort in but you can be forgiven to think at times what's the point? And I don't want to be that guy, if I ever order a cue I want to feel that this master craftsman I ordered it from doesn't feel like his time is wasted.

I don't get that at all, that was your job, you were paid to do the very best job you could, do you have a car? Are you a racing driver, if not, why don't you walk everywhere as you can not drive that car up to the standard of a professional, get a nice cue if you want one, it's only a hobby enjoy the cue and the game, it's snooker ,its hitting a few balls around with a slightly pointy stick, relax a bit fella
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I appreciate where you come from mate, I really do. Am I going a bit to deep? Maybe. But that's the way I feel.

I do understand where you are coming from, I couldn't have a flashy multi spliced cue, they are just all to much for me, I prefer something very plain and understated, but what I would say is in your job, when using tools did you buy or use the cheapest you could find when you first started out, or did you buy quality as they would last you a lifetime?
