  • JY (Jian Ying) cue

I just took delivery of this JY cue
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Tradit...item2340a9d4a4
Specs that aren't mentioned in the ad:
    Length - 57 inches
    Ferrule - Approx 9.5mm

After un-boxing it and having a look at it, it certainly seems like a reasonable cue for the price. The cue is straight as an arrow, it has a nice weight to it and the finish is nice, it glides nicely over the bridge hand.
In terms of the accessories the case it pretty decent maybe a little bit flimsy but I'm not throwing the thing around. The minibutt is very lightweight but again it's solid and screws in nicely. The telescopic extension is of reasonable quality, shaft is metal and the handle is plastic.
I'm looking forward to trying this cue out once I get the chance.

I would take my own pictures but I can't find an easy way to photograph it but the pictures in the ad are a direct representation of the cue.
    Feel free to ask questions.

Might make a massive difference if you just put a decent Elk tip on it

I already have considered putting an elk on it. I'm gonna give the original tip a try and if it doesn't bed in nicely I'll cut it off and an elk on

I got the same one! couldn't resist at that price, even for the case as it's got a great soft foam lining in it. might stick a phoenix tip on as 3 arrived off the 'bay today

I passed on the 8 faced spliced cues because I don't honestly believe that they could genuinely be that way at that price

Is the butt actually Ebony or is it painted? I'm thinking of buying one myself.

I'm not sure, I think it might be something painted, the colour is very dark and I can't see A whole lot of grain on the butt.
The pictures in the ad are a direct representation of the cue so have a look at those to get an idea also.

Disclaimer: I'm not a cue expert so I might be off by an absolute mile.

The butts are brown ebony which are over dyed/painted black. Splice fingers are also over dyed and can be way out if you were to sand the dye/paint off. Cheap cues that look ok and are good starter cues.

thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't expecting anything amazing at the price point but this cue is certainly miles better than any starter cue I could find at a UK retailer (sports direct and such).

I bought an LP cue from the same seller for the same price and it is REALLY a good cue. Regardless of the value of the cue if you cannot pot nothing is going to change. I find it difficult to believe any-one is paying in excess of 60 to 80 UK pounds for any cue, must have more money than sense.
