  • What is a proffesional snooker cue ?

Sorry if this has been asked before but the last few days of browsing ebay i have seen an increasing amount of cues being advertised as a professional snooker cue...maybe just me but don't quite understand what this means. Would be great full if anyone can help explain.

    thanks.

A 'Professional' cue doesn't really exist, cues are measured by quality and specification

Professional players will normally use a cue that is handmade and made of high quality wood but even then that is not always the case, Hendry used a relatively inexpensive cue to win most of his titles.

The bottom line is a player should use a cue he is comfortable playing with and a 'Professional' cue will never make anybody play better

I think the term Professional Cue is often used to represent a cue that is either Ebony and Ash or Maple with no splices to embelish all business no flash. Cheers

          I think adr started it
Maybe just a way of saying it's a quality cue or something

I'm sure this was a myth... I remember being put in my place by Mike Hallet who told me that Hendry's cue cost around £90. In early 80's money, I would hardly consider that a cheap cue.

Then again, Mike could have just been wanting to make me look sillier than usual

Perhaps 'professional' means that it earns it's living as a cue and it has no other job

Hendry's cue was by no means a cheap one but it was bent :snooker:

              Doherty's was a bit of a racker

I thought I read it was something to do with the taper, that instead of the cue being like a cone shape all the way down the last eight or so inches there was no taper, and this was called a pro taper or cue? I might just have made all that up though.

Always thought pro taper cues are more common in American pool because of their preference to a closed bridge

It's a sales pitch by ebay sellers that's it nothing else.

I would think this is a cue with a Pro taper not a pro cue.

I think the term professional is used to imply that a cue is good enough for the pro's, so of the highest quality. Of course very subjective but just makes a cue sound better so yeah pretty much sales talk!

It is used as a general term to differentiate between a top end hand made cue and an agros cue.
