  • More domed tip = easier spin

    Hi guys,

I'm currently playing both English pool and snooker with a 9.5mm tip, and was wondering whether it would be better to dome my tip a bit more for generating spin on the smaller pool balls? Currently, I can just about manage to draw the cue ball the length of a pool table, but it's really tricky.

    Thanks,
    Joe

More down to your technique than your equipment pal.

Loosen your grip a touch, get your bridge a touch closer the white and follow through more... Might be harder to control but you'll generate more spin.

i think a more domed tip does help generate more spin because it enables you to hit further from the centre of the cue ball, but its not a huge difference.

Basically you want the curvature of your tip to match the curvature of the ball you're hitting, over dome it and you'll get a small contact area on plain ball shots making it harder to not impart some side by not hitting the center of the cue ball, not enough dome and you'll have a small contact area playing off center shots and are more likely to miscue. Experiment with different shapes and find the shape that suits you best
