Do any cue makers use English Ash any-more?

I just wondered if any cue makers use English Ash any longer or is it all from Asia or North America?

Is there no old stock of it available? - if so and if everyone is getting ash from abroad - why the hell does anyone buy a modern Parris cue? - if its all imported from the same place what is the difference?

I'm guessing the best ash comes from North America, that's why everyone seems to use it. Was English ash better? If so in what way.

Bit off topic but why are ash and maple the most popular hard woods used in cue making? Have some cue makers out there experimented with different kinds of wood?

Have a hunter pear wood cue, its excellent, smooth as silk. But he is one of the uk's best cue makers. Someone on tsf made a cue from a reddish colour wood, looked fantastic just the £400 price tag scared me off.

as far as I know, they are stiff with high prctg of Density!!
Some ash are stiff but death. IMO, the best kind of ash for playing snooker is: Dense stiff ash!! The character of the wood is approximately the same as a good quality Mapel!! Yes Maximus uses that kind of wood (ash/Maple),, especially for the ultimate range!! I heard that JP uses the same kind of wood for the JP ultimate range (not sure about that, just what I've heard).

Lots of people ask who make the best cues not many people ask where the cue makers get the wood from and where the best ash or maple for that matter comes from - so I thought I would ask.

btw, I got that info from,, Maximus ( so i did'nt know it either ).. . My cousin had t visited maximus (during wk snooker 6 red in Thailand). He got a tour around the shop+ sum info about the type of wood and that kind of stuff!!
