Photo does not really do it justice though.
If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???

Next time I am in Melbourne I will have to visit Anyway, back to laminated shafts.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
      I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

For sure and don't forget to visit me!

Anyway we need more opinions from people who have played with Laminated shafts!

I have not played with one, but I have seen a few in the flesh. I must say that I prefer the look of a nice ash shaft, but no idea how they compare in terms of playability.

Interesting how we are all different regarding this stuff and what is good for one is rubbish for another etc but i am liking the opinions.
Lol.. it reminds me the other thread comparing pressed tip and laminated tip.
I always tell my friends, when a pro player uses a house cue and gets a century with it. The cue will suddenly looks expensive

Good point !! When something is new , just get sum time for people to get use to it . Or to the idea !!
is just a shaft with dif playing charactersm!! obviously, is also important who the cue maker is and how the cue is made. Richy made my playing cue and Niche made my brother's playing cue. All I can say is: both are top cue makers and did a Great job !! I saw a few pictures of Jim E in previous posts . I did'nt know he also make cues with LM shafts . not familiar with his work although !! But I've heard only good reviews about his work !!

These look stunning, but surely it will fade over time? If the pattern could be somehow engraved into the wood then filled it would be an amazing innovation, look and feel of perfect ash every time?

Yeah, but I think can be filled up with normal ash filler?

Mate. That is exactly what it is. Maple shaft with a ash grain pattern etched into the pale and grain filled like ash. I tried one out and it hits like maple. The advantage of an ash look with maple shaft.

Agreed bro. Had afew friend tried on my laminated cue. Some are considering getting one too.
Currently I'm experimenting which tip to fit the cue. Tried Niche black and brown tip and Kamui 11mm M. Currently went back to Niche brown tip.
What tip are you using on your laminated cue Ramon?

I use ADR Laminated soft tips !! To be honest , They re realy good !! Nice CB grip and good respons !! My brother plays also with LM shaft made by Niche ! When he got the cue , was a Niche black Laminated on it !! Nice tip , plays almost the same as Phonix Laminated tips ( as I heard ) . But he prfr to play with press tips . So he did put a Blue knight MH press tip on it !! When I traid a few shots with that cue, was just amazing !! Plays just the same as a good Elk !!
Anyway ,, if you want to keep playing with Laminated tips , I would recomend ADR tips !!

Sorry, but that's just not going to be the case, no matter what anyone tells you.

Wood is wood, so laminated shafts will be subject to the same variations that solid timber is likely to have. Maple can be heavier or lighter, stiffer or springier, just as ash can. Many species of timber can be to very noticeable levels also. By that token, it matter little if a shaft is constructed by a laminated process, because if there is significant flexibility in the timber, it will be there to some extent even if it's laminated. Of course, lamination does have its advantages in certain applications, such as construction, aircraft manufacture and so on, but cue shafts.?...Maybe not so much.

At the end of all the debate, a cue is a cue and will feel good or not so good. Fabulous cues are out there in ash, maple, one piece, jointed, shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, plain butt, no butt, multi-spliced butt, cheap, expensive, UK made, imported.....yada yada yada yada.

I was debating whether to even press "post quick reply" or "cancel" for this above, but someone needs to say this.

I've never really been convinced by laminated shafts. But when Mezz came out with their 3/4 snooker cue bearing a pie-piece laminated shaft I wondered why, considering that they never went down that path with their pool cues, and their pool cues are probably held in the the highest regard world-wide.

Can lamination improve warp resistance? A few sellers have suggested so and if the playability isn't compromised I imagine that this would be an incentive for manufacturers like Mezz. I see no reason why lamination in itself would reduce throw but if it improves strength and allows for a slimmer taper while maintaining a solid hit then perhaps it could?
                                Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!
