I would say that a few of the smaller chinese players are using cues at or below 57". Those that spring to mind are the likes of Zhang Anda, Li Hang and Lyu Haotian.

I'm not sure but I think I read that Matthew Stevens cue is quite short as he has had numerous ferrule changes and I don't believe he has ever had the cue altered to replace the length he's lost.

I believe Higgins used to play with a short cue about 55" as well, don't know about his current cue though.

Stevens cue has definitely been lengthened, originally it was a plain black butt, its had tulip-wood extending it for quite a few years now. Plus you can tell by the fact the ebony splices are in front of his chin when he's cueing.

The only cue I have that has been confirmed as being short is Ding Junhui (by Stamford) at 142cm (55.9").
As been said others have used short cues in the past - Dott, JHiggins - but now have over 57".
Ray Reardon mentions in an interview that his cue was 4ft 7.5" (55.5").

update - Rogibear says that Ding's cue is 143cm (56.3"), I got the 142 from an email posted sometime ago from Stamford, it is only 1cm but as well all know everything helps when it comes to length

The Reardon thing i find very hard to believe. He was over 6ft tall Reardon, just seems impossible a player that tall could use such a short cue. Then again they never played power shots in those days so I guess a short bridge and follow through was probably the way to play.

I know what you mean, but I rewound the interview (on youtube something like "ray reardon - snooker") at the time to confirm! and he says 4ft 7.5in which is an old way of saying the length (ie. not just in inches ), got to say that the cue does look very short for him, when standing it only comes up to his mid chest.

I think the video was "part 2 Choosing a cue" of the 14 part Ray Reardon On Snooker series that I cant find on youtube at the mo

Yeah there was that video series on youtube "reardon on snooker" with clive everton and he said it was about 55" because 2 inches or so broke off it. Doesn't seem to be on youtube any-more, was interesting to watch

Any particular reason you use such a short cue ???
