  • New Cue - Advice Required!!

Hi, I have recently started playing snooker for my local team and need to purchase a new cue. Just wondering who are the best manufacturers as there seem to be so many to choose from!

I have played pool to quite a high standard for over 10 years but my current cue has an 8mm tip which is not suitable for snooker.

    New Cue - Advice Required!!

Can of worms time but my advice would be to contact adr147 on here or go to Green Baize in Middlesbrough (sp?) .

Ok thanks, I have seen some nice looking cues on ebay which say they are hand made and brand new. They come with a case and extensions for £50-£80. Too good to be true?? My pool cue cost me £150 12 years ago and still going strong with it!

Welcome - no such thing as best manufacturer, just best cue for you. Advice above is best as the ideal thing is to try out some before purchasing.

It really is potluck (no pun) to order one and hope it suits

Thanks for the reply! I pretty much know what I want, the same spec as my pool cue but with a 9.5mm tip so 58" 19oz either 1pc or 3/4. Just want to make sure it's a nice piece of wood with a smooth finish that isn't varnished or sticky!!

You may well know what spec you want but my point is that 3 cues with these same specs will all play different even if they came from the same maker.

            Good luck anyway

Personally I would stay away 50-80 cues on Ebay, The saying 'Get what you pay for' springs to mind. As other people have mentioned it really is potluck to find a cue which suits, especially so when just ordering off the net. You may want to try Mastercraft cues (www.mastercraft-cues.co.uk) they'll make one to your exact spec for not a massive amount of money, £200 or so, will take prob six months but well worth the wait.

well I have a few of the woods cues off eBay and a jian ying , all case and extensions etc and I play just as badly with those as I do with my more expensive powerglide axas! Indian not the arrow. ....find a cue you like and that plays good and ignore the cost.

Best advice would be to go somewhere where you can try several cues, it would save you a lot of time and money to find the right cue, unless you are not fussy at all and can get on with anything.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Can anyone recommend somewhere in the midlands where I can go and try a cue please? Been to B&W Billiards and I could be wrong but the cues seem a bit overpriced!
