  • What was your first cue.

Hi guys, was just curious on what was the first cue you ever had.

Riley 2 piece, heavilly varnished and did a proper butchers job of getting the varnish off! Progressed to a really nice Shender 3/4 (which I really regret selling!) then caught the antique bug for a while, and learned how to restore cues. Now swap and change cues far too often. The only constant has been my Northwest, which I don't think I'll ever part with.

Mine was a 1 piece barracuda Kirkham cue which I bought from John Spencer in 86, this was my playing cue until very recently. Now I have a great Northwest which I bought from a forum member which I'll more than likely use for the next 30 years

It was a cue craft 3/4 jointed cue wih those stupid quick release joints, specs were 57.5 inch 18.5oz and 9.5mm. It was a nice cue and I've stuck with almost the same specs as that for all my current cues which are 57.5, 18oz, 9.5mm
          77 in a match, 97 in a line up

My first cue was a LP 3/4 golden label ash cue which was made in China, 57 inches 9.5 mm tip, 29.3 mm butt, 18oz. I used it to play Chinese pool for 4 years. Later, I had a MW 1pc maple cue in 2012 and I begun to play snooker from 2012.

a two piece maple from JJB Sports when I was about 13/14yrs old
no idea of make or spec, all I remember is that it feel off the back of my bike in its soft case and went under a truck and was smashed into pieces. I gave it a ceremonial cremation in the back garden

never had a soft case ever again
                  Up the TSF! :snooker:

Keith Auld 3/4 cue , bought from him when he had his shop in Wimbledon . Wish I kept it now ......would have saved me a few ££££££'s . Was actually , when I think about it now , a very decent cue for the money .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

a 2 piece 'Bridge' cue from Anthony Bridge. Cost £19.99 about 20 years ago. Horrible, varnished job that got sticky after about 10 mins of playing.

first 'proper' cue was a 3/4 machine spliced cue craft

JJB sports, 'the sherwood cue' if I remember rightly, was a few years ago now! Shocking quality looking back, more varnish than wood, but I thought it was great when I was 15!

My 1st cue was a 3/4 jointed Cue Craft, painted butt, varnish had been sanded off the shaft and the wood left bare, I loved it though, only stopped using it after the joint broke, and it would have cost more to get it replaced than what the cue was worth

Sounds a lot like my 1st cue, mine was painted to look hand spliced with real coloured veneers and a rosewood front splice, similar specs but mine was around 17oz. It had the dot to dot triangular quick release joint

My first sort of decent cue was a Powerglide Striker John Higgins cue, 1/2 jointed with a machine spliced rosewood butt with a single splice of rosewood over a green veneer. I remember being in a sports shop and saw this cue that was so much better than any other cue I'd seen in the flesh before. Cost me £60 I think. Had a natural finish and I played with that for a good 2-3 years before ordering a Parris but it certainly served me well.

Ended up lending it to a mate and never saw it again as he moved about a month later.
