Review MAC CUE Laminated Shaft ( maple )...

A few months ago. After I did try a couple of shots with maple cue (laminated shaft). I decided to place my order for a cue with Laminated shaft!! After a short research I finally opted for a UK cue maker. Richy (Mac cues) from Scotland. was the first time i deal with this guy !!
I have spoken with Richy about what I want !! he Is a great guy!! He listened to my requirements and answered my mail always on time!! I knew I had a few month waiting time for this cue wich I found no problem!!!! After a few months Richy sent me a mail and came with good news!! The cue was ready!! I got the cue today!! All I can say is: Is a piece of art!! Incredible what Richy has done!! Craftsmenshap is excellent and without errors!! I played a few shots with the cue!! I got more than I paid for !!! I have no word for how incredibly good this cue plays !! the cue is forward balanced and weighted !! With each shot ( Scrw/top/stun/spin ......), less effort and let the cue do its job and enjoy of results!! Very responsive/great CB control and Less deflection!!
Frankly,, I sent a mail to Richy and asked him if he is a magician. anyway ... I just wanted to say thank you for all that work and valuable time Richy. Also, I wanted to thank Andrew for sending Peradon cue case and adr LM tips to Richy on time !! If you looking for a cue maker you can trust and wanna makes a great cue for you. than Richy is high recommended imo!! Richy and Andrew, many thanks and I'm grateful!!

Yeah,, thanks Robert ,,, to be honest , he plays just as great as he Looks !!! Richy is indeed one of the top cue makers in de world !!!

Nice cue. I bought one of his cues around 3 years ago. Plain black ebony butt, 3/4 joint. Great cue. Still play with it at the club

The black lamination lines and the ebony butt are very smart looking.

I read yesterday that Meucci are making shafts with 39 laminations! They reckon it has more forward balance (as you've said about your cue). They say that 39 laminations leads to radial consistency equal to natural maple. I wondered if any snooker cue makers were using such materials in their cues?

Is there any risk of delamination of the shaft over time please? I clean my shaft with a damp rag, so I'm wondering about the glue between the laminations.

Sort of a Marmite look imo, yes you get "perfect arrows" but at the same time not very convincing. Not a criticism really because it would be very hard to perfectly mimic something that is natural in wood.

Is true, LM shaft are a bit heavier than regular shaft. This can influence in how the cue is gonna be balanced and weighted ( forward ). But ultimately it is the cue maker that determines the way the cue is balanced and weighted. The top cue makers ( Richy/ Rymond / TW / MW........) are usually able to do that!!
As for the wood > laminates shaft sets the player able to have control over CB but at the same time able to give the CB sum life (especially with power shots). Plus less deflection which is a bonus !! does this mean that you can't do that with regular shaft?? absolutely not!! your technique is ultimately most important factor in snooker!!As for me ... I have played my whole life with ash shaft but I'll never do that again !! Is a matter of personal preference. Try a couple of shots with LM shaft before you decide to buy one!!
BTW,, you can clean them just as u like , is no problem!!!! there is no risk of delamination . This shafts are stronger en more consistent than regular shafts ,,, imo.

Yes, the Meucci shafts don't have this colouration, so I guess that Ramon's cue has some very thin layers dyed black? This look is very striking but I don't think it will change the way the cue plays? It's not really needed as an ordinary maple shaft is pretty plain looking anyway, not much grain.

What I'm really interested in is why this shaft has about 10-12 main laminations and a Meucci has 35-39 laminations and how this relates to radial consistency, i.e. does the Mac have enough laminations? Maybe the Doctor can explain this shaft to me, me being a bit naive on this material.

I never thought plywood would end up on cues, in IKEA furniture maybe, but not on cues and yet, it sounds like it plays even better than solid wood. Amazing.
