we know that if you have a cue thats a little heavier then your gonna get more rotation from the white. what weight is judds cue?
by the look he likes a bit of give in his cue so, is it resonance, weight, techique or, what do you think the mixture is?

A few things are at work J6. We'd all screw back that far on a shaved 6811 M cloth, with great technique. I believe he uses a Parris Traditional, semi stiff and a bit whippy. But Judd also has great technique and lets his cue do the work, lots of acceleration but not forceful. Robbo is the same. They've both got Parris cues and that choice shaftwood helps as well.

I don't think Judd's cue is heavier than most, is it 18oz roughly? There is a tipping point where more weight leads to less spin due to the difficulty of accelerating a heavy cue. Cues also lose feel as more lead is added so most pros are between 17-19oz.

Id put it down to how he accelerates the cue, his cue action isn't silky smooth like that of Shaun Murphy who i think times the shot better but the speed at which Trump gets the cue moving

Cheers for that. I did say I believe, not know(!). So, it's at the lighter end of the scale, I BELIEVE Ronnie is a tad over 18oz. Davis, I BELIEVE has a +190z cue at one point but he hardly developed more cue power, it's all in the balance of weight/acceleration, I BELIEVE! lol. Judd's tip size is pretty standard as well.

Dave Walton: I agree with you, his cue action is a bit Judd-ery, not as smooth as Robbo's. I think this was one aspect of his game some of the pros and coaches questioned when he broke through, as well as his stance etc. It suits him though.

I've noticed an increase in my own cue power, after dropping down from 19.25oz to 17oz unweighted. But that could also be to do with coaching and changing fundamentals; I bow down to my prof.

For me personally and I'm not questioning anyone else's decision on how they want their chevrons its up to them entirely, but I dont look at these type of players as serious players more hobbiests so to speak. You can't tell a good shaft by its chevrons.

I agree with you but JP selects his boards according to density, feel, straight/nice grain and likely number of chevrons when planed down. Judd's is a Parris rack cue, so he went in the shop, says I'll have that one and bought it. Or at least that's what a member said, I BELIEVE! So Judd wanted lots of chevrons, takes a hit with it and likes it. There were probably cues with less chevrons, less equally spaced but that's the one the man wanted. Apparently, it's a bit whippy, I BELIEVE, which suits his game fine. I think he had a Cue Craft, I BELIEVE, before this cue. I can't remember which one, was it a custom or Monarch? Deano?

Anyway, it's interesting that he picks a cue with a shaft that looks as good as any Ultimate. So one of the top players is not playing with an Ultimate. It's still a JP though fellas! pmsl.

I think you need to take another look at an ultimate and get back to me if you think Judd's cue is similar to an ultimate?
