Sepele Wood Butts

Has anyone here ever worked with sepele for splicing.

Just been given a whole bar from a snooker club which would make a nice bench but have a few additional planks which I could cut up for practice.

I understand it can split and is pretty hard on blades but just wondered if anyone had used it before as it has a good finish.

only a mahogany mate,ok for practice,used on a few older cues before.finish is good.

I'll give it a crack then and see how many blades it blunts!

got quite a lot of 10 mm x 20 in long,plus a load of old stuff off a 100 yr old table,lol

Wow. Love that wood. Would like to see it on a butt.....

Stupid as it sounds Jim, I never thought about old snooker rails. It seems a nice thought to make cue butts out of old snooker tables with some history to it.

yes mate i got 6 rails and slides of old table when it was refurbed.

Can you think of any tables that would be good to get certain types of wood from?

I know a table fitting company and they regularly charge people to take away tables as they can't sell them and they are scrapped. They already have too many to try and resell!

It would be interesting if this is commonplace which I expect it is and the wood goes to waste. I did ask the guy if he uses the old slate or wood for anything and he said people had tried to re-use the old elaborate legs for lamps but that was about it.

I could certainly get them to keep an eye out for certain makes if the wood was good!

Nice! Still like to see a piece of that quilted sapele on the top splice of a snooker cue with ebony on the others; I think that would be smart.

Was the sapele used just for the butt or sapele for the whole cue? I know how ambitious you are having followed your Jawes thread!

Main ebony butt with 4 secondary splices of Sapele would be fine, I will show one next yrs
