  • £70 ish best cue recommendations!

Just starting up playing again after a long break, and I am looking to buy a cheapish cue for around the £70 Mark because I'm not sure if my work commitments might prevent playing in a few months time.

New to the forums and tried to find a similar post but alas. Any recommendations guys? Not bothered if it's machine spliced or not so long as the quality is improved.

For snooker, looking , at a 9.5mm tip.

Im average height / arm length.

    thanks.

To buy a decent cue you really don't need to be spending £4-500 to get a quality cue, you'll normally be paying for the badge and the reselling purpose.
Between £150-250 will get you a top quality cue like GBL or mastercraft etc if you can stretch to this

Would that cue fit the bill. I think it would be hard to find a hand spliced cue for less. Alternatively I am thinking of selling my peradon cue for £30 including case. It is 57" 18oz, with a 9.5mm tip. it has a nice ash shaft and plays nicely.

Thanks Leo, Yeah I was contemplating upping up to that amount as I seem to find everyone recommending around that figure. However I was just enquiring to see what the feeling was on what's best for the lower price bracket and judge if there was an exceptional cue (machined or not) that might lend to a standard of performance normally associated with a higher priced cue. (ie quality).

I know a lot of answers will be personal preference and the feel of the cue. There was a guide online by an old pro that recommended cues by price bracket / supplier / maker.

Cant find it now, but it was quite useful in getting a general idea.

A similar guide on here would be useful I reckon for people like myself, and of course could be added to / amended by those who are most seasoned and knowledgeable of what's available but maybe this would be too subjective? without falling into as dispute on who makes the best cues for the price?

Thanks James, I did see that cue recommended a few times, have you played with one?

I hadn't heard of Brittania brand before, but obviously had heard of adr147 etc

I'm interested in the answer to this question too. anything in the £70 region, maybe up to £100 for the new and (hopefully) improving player.

                      Hi Deneo,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm now not sure if I'm selling my cue, as I have yet to find a replacement. If I do decide to sell it though I'll post some pics. I haven't played with the Britannia cue sold by ADR147 but if I were buying a budget cue then it would definitely be one I considered.

Is there a cue shop near you where you can try out cues?

Nothing wrong with these £70 cues, you can pick up some real beauties that will suit you, no the badge wouldn't win you kudos on here from certain individuals but as long as the cue play well it really doesn't matter.

How much difference can a decent cue make to a new player? Would somebody who can only really knock in 4 or 5 balls in a row be improved by spending £70-£100 over a £30 cue from Argos?
I'm not expecting instant improvements I mean with practice.
