  • Visiting Bangkok - Cue suggestions

    Hi all,

I'm visiting Bagkok for a few days in mid November and want to take the opportunity to order a new custom cue while I'm there. I have tried a few O'mins and Phoenix cues at my club and really like them, so will definitely try to visit both, and probably Master cues as well.

Any other makers I should consider? I'll have a few days to visit and check them out before deciding who to go with.

    Thanks in advance.

Maximus Cues make amazing cues and so do Ton Praram. Both are in Bangkok i think and have full sized tables for testing.

Maximus. He has a good few cues available. You should try what he has avaible on the rack before buying. Just my suggestion. By the way if you want custom.made six weeks to six months lead time before delivery.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been in email contact with Maximus and Ton Praram and will definitely be visiting both. They tell me they have quite a few pre made cues that I can try out, and if I can't find one that suits, then we can go down the custom route.

I think I'm leaning this way already - why pass up an opportunity, who knows when I'll be back in Bangkok. It may take 6-10 weeks to complete and ship, but I'm prepared to wait. I'll probably pick up a couple of their pre-mades for my teenage boys who are travelling with me and are just starting to get in to the game, so they can tie me over until the custom arrives. Looks like I've just talked myself into a custom! Lol

Pretty sure I'm more excited about my Bangkok shopping adventure than the wife is! I can see a few handbag purchases being made to level the ledger!!

Lol. I'm Aussie mate, more like a boogie board bag.

But seriously, I will need to look at getting a hard case while I'm over there to transport them back with me. Or maybe just a post office type tube as I already have a few nice cases.

You've already done the prudent, sensible thing by contacting the cue companies there in advance. Some may not stock much in their showrooms and their top range cues are usually custom.

Advisable to get a hard case to go with the new cue though. Easier to carry around than a tube and you never know with air travel.

I'll be there over the weekend, can't wait. Hoping to pick out a nice cue, maybe more, hopefully not... lol. Will definitely try to visit Ton Praram and Maximus as I've had cues from both and they're good.

                  Have a nice trip!!

You will not regret with Ton Praram III.
If not mistaken, Ding & Ryan Day are using his cue currently.... Correct me if I'm wrong, cause I saw Ton posted on his FB.

I have a Ton Praram III beyond, excellent cue !!

Ton Praram III has been very popular recently! Some comparing his work against some top maker in the UK, feedback was great.

Yeah, Ding is using Ton's cue too, so glad to see him move on from the high value low quality brand.

                              Just a quick update.

I've narrowed my visits to Ton Praram and Maximus. Both have been very good replying to emails and have offered to give me and my teenage boys a tour of the factory. My boys are keen to see how the cues are made.

O'min haven't responded to any inquiries - I even had a Thai friend here in Aus email them in Thai and still nothing. They're a little out of the way too, so probably not practical to visit all three.

Praram is about a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from my hotel so that's a real bonus, I'll visit him on the day I arrive and try a few of his display cues, get pricing etc.

The following day on to Maximus (approx 30-45 min taxi ride) and do it again.

Maximus seems a little cheaper from my initial inquires (plain ebony ultimate from about $370 Aus , Praram says his start from about $300, so I imagine his limited editions cost at least twice that). Price isn't a major concern though as I hope this will be 'long time' cue. (pardon the Thai pun)

Super exicited, can't wait to try a few of these beauties out.
