  • Considering a hand-spliced vintage Peradon cue

I'm considering buying an old cue as it is similar to the specifications I'd like at just over 56 inches. Also, the ash shaft looks really nice, straight grain and it doesn't seem very expensive. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REFURBISHE...item1c5a9119bb
What do you think? it has been refurbished, I'm not sure about the seller, has anyone bought a cue from black swan trading? Thanks for any advice.

It doesn't look much like it's refurbished to me (in the sense that I don't think it has any real residual value as what it 'was'). It looks more like an old ash shaft, turned into a completely new cue. Nothing wrong with that, if it plays okay. For me, given that it probably would not affect it's price as a vintage cue, I'd want an SD socket in it for that sort of price.

Thanks for that, it looks like one of these Joe Davis cues. Some of them look similar. http://www.oldcues.co.uk/index.php?i...on#prettyphoto[3351623535]/1/
The description fits, with the ebony butt and birdseye maple front splice.

I'm not sure about the cue, on the one hand it seems like good value, as it is hand spliced and the ash shaft looks very nice. However, it's a risk buying a cue without having tried it.

Dave ( blackswan01 I think ) is a member on here. Why not pm him and ask what has been done, what it was originally, etc etc.

I've bought a few cues off Dave and he's always been OK with me.

Thanks, I searched for him on here and there is a thread where it seems like he is a very reputable seller. I will get in contact with him to ask more details about the cue.

The cue is a vintage Peradon. The butt has been repaired and a front splice added, the cue has also been refinished and referruled. I only chose vintage cues with very good shafts to refurbish.
The English ash shaft on this cue is as good if not better than most modern made cues (most of the woods are inferior imported quality). The work was carried out by Jon Lonergan, a very good young cue-maker.
Anyone that buys a cue from me is welcome to return it for a refund if they are not happy with it (minus shipping costs) whether it's a playing cue or a collectible cue. As long as the cue is returned in the same condition as when it was sent out.

                Hi David,

Thanks very much for your detailed reply, the only issue I have is that there is no joint for a butt or extension. i don't know whether there would be ways round this or whether adding a joint might change the balance of the cue too much.

                James
