I waited about 7 months for a 3/4 Champion cue. It was very whippy and the splices were way out. I would have considered keeping it if it wasnt so whippy. I spoke to John personally and told him straight that the cue was very poor and to have splices upto an inch out was unacceptable on a cue costing over £400. He didnt like my comments but . what John did then was to replace the cue within 6 weeks fo one that was spot on. I am on the fence about recent qulaity from JP but I am glad I purchased a cue from him as I knew he would put it right.

    • I believe a cue maker should never send a cue out hoping the customer will accept the defaults. Good for John for changing the cue for you in a short amount of time but you shouldn't have received a cue with bad splicings in the first place. You can't help but like Parris cues and 12 of the top 16 players in the world can't be wrong but I'm reading more and more that his cues are being delivered with problems. I know that if a splicing is longer than another it won't change the way the cue plays, but still, it shouldn't happen.

I have an Elite I have had for years and it's a great cue. It's just been sent to MW for an MOT and ultra shine finish. Can't wait to see what it's like.

an inch out... I am not a JP hater at all, I rather like the guy, but find me a Mike Wooldridge cue with the spices 5mm out.

Stick to the normal cues, if you go near the VCM (if you can ever find it working) you will need very deep pockets! !

            • From what I hear the Legend cue he makes is a very good cue. I have tried to find a bad review but can't. It really does sound like its a brilliant cue. Plus £475 is enough for a cue. M staying away from those £800 Ultimates. Ow different would it be to a Legend anyway?

                  • Ultimates start around £980 delivered for a plain ebony one piece cue, that's a hell of a lot! !
Surely no better than a Legend

                    • They START at £980. I would expect to sit in my chair and the cue play for me

                      • Lots of cue options these days if one can look past the cue snobbery.

I agree with this. I've tried quite a few Parris cues and maybe it was happenstance but all of them (some stock and some ordered) had something about them I didn't like too much. Generally the shafts were too stiff.

Even with the flaw in my ebony butt with the MW it was still made to exactly my specs and I've been playing with it for at least 2 years now or so and I still really like it although I also have a laminated 1pc from Richy that plays very well too. The other thing about MW cues is his extensions. That might be a minor point but it is a selling point for me. They work well and the extendable mini-butt is great.

                          • You are getting the John Parris Logo which most guys on here seem to think is the most important thing. A club member received his John Parris cue after 18 months, the cue is badly warped, if it takes 18 months to get one and the wood is allowed to settle at every stage, hence the long wait how is it possible for it to warp? He has spoken to John and after a few discussions I believe the cue will be replaced. I'll ask him to put a few pic's on the forum before he sends it back.
It cost 4 times as much as my Thai made Maximus Ultimate, which is plain ebony/ash very well balanced and not even warped.

                            • If you gave Ronnie O Sullivan, Shaun Murphy, John Higgings , a cheapo cue from Sports Direct or Argos a said knock in a 100 or even a 147 whats the odds they could do it. Within reason its not the cue its the person using it. this is a lesson we could all learn (Myself included) if we want to avoid empty wallet syndrome.

                              • As has been seen on youtube by the bloke called startrek who knocked total clearance with a broom handle.

Any pro with any cue will still clear tables thats a fact.

new cues just take time getting used to and a lot of people seem to buy in to picking a cue up and it being the one and if its not shipping it on or keeping as a collector.

stay with a cue long enough and anyone will get used to it.
