I know its not the same as cues but I found out that more dosh don't mean you get more bang for your bucks

Yup
When I placed my order 15 months ago it was £1400 with a patchwork case mind you and the cue itself was about £965!
I've accepted that's it's supply and demand situation though I would be fairy miffed if I knew it wasn't on a first come first served basis! I know my JPU won't be made by the man himself and sometimes I've thought I would be better off trying to pick up and older second hand one which would have stood a better chance of being made by John himself. But then the prices some people want for second hand are ridiculous. I'm buying one because I've always wanted one and if it turns out I can't get on with it and I decide to sell it I won't be asking silly money! I'll sell it at a fair price to someone who hopefully I can tell is passionate about the game and owning one.

especially in China and Far East , u can sell them very fast . especially JP Ultimate .
But for Sumone who wants to play snooker , it's a very long waiting time indeed .
There has been an explosion of interest in the best handmade English cues from China over the past few years and this has meant hundreds of cues are ordered at a time from agents. Now I'm not naive enough to think that JP does his orders based on when they were placed. It makes business sense that if you have a hundred individual orders or one customer ordering 100 cues, you are going to give priority to the 100 cues first. This is why the order book keeps getting put back IMO.
When I and others on here placed their orders back in 2012 I distinctly remember the waiting time to be at 40-50 weeks for a 1pc Ultimate. I was prepared to wait that long as other cue makers at the time like TW had a similar waiting time. DC and Robin Cook at the time were longer I believe but I'd played with a JP traditional for over 15 years so I felt comfortable replacing that with the best JP had to offer.
Had I known back then that the wait was going to be well over 3 years I'd have never placed the order, and I doubt most others wouldn't either. So it really irks me when people say that you must be mad waiting that long for a cue like it was out of choice!
JP unlike other cue makers is an employer though, he can't just close his order book as that wouldn't look good for business. TW, DC and other one man bands can afford to take that risk, they only have to cover their own expenses and they know that their reputation won't be slagged on the internet by making that decision.
Sadly JP gets criticised more than any other cue maker and if he did close his order book it would start another discussion and more criticism. Its his success that sadly breeds this jealousy and hatred towards him because its what many people do in the UK when they see someone being successful. Time to close this thread now mods, its been done to death time and time again and serves no purpose other than another anti JP bashing.

JP is a great cue maker with more than 30 years of experience. the problem is that still many people do belive that all those cues re made by JP himself . but at the end of the day , it's thr money and thr choice.
The idea that a cue brand (JP or any other cue ..) is the best or the worst cue, is a stupid idea. ( not saying u mentioned that , speaking in general ). I've seen sum JP ultimates an they were made to the perfection with great playblty . I've also seen sum of them which was very poor ( in terms of playblty an craftsmnsp ) as i've seen cues from other brands ( thai or uk ) with the same story .
As already mentioned by other members, he has time and shafts to bring out a completely new range. It's true , it's JP's bussines . but i can imagine sum of the costumers would'nt happy with that an imo it's not fair to them. ( specially people who're waiting a long time ).Last edited by Ramon; 18 October 2015, 06:16 PM.

Forgot about the new range he just brought out! Damn!!
As it was highlighted he does run a business and likely employs more staff in production than just about any other UK maker but he is so popular that closing his books for a bit to play catch up with back orders surely wouldn't hurt him that much and besides as long as snooker remains popular globally with a burgeoning fat eastern market his business will still do well as he is still gonna be the no 1 go to guy in many people's eyes.
