  • Single splice suggestions

    I've just picked up a really nice player, pre 60's possibly e j Riley, rosewood on ash with a green and maple front splice, 58" 10.5mm tip 17.5oz.
    The front splice however is coming away and is damaged, the rest of the cue is in excellent condition, nice chevrons and deep honey patena.
    Looking for suggestions and price estimate for new splice, how fancy can you go with a single splice, I'm favouring the classic humbug af the moment, any other ideas?

      there loads to choose from, with a single splice i prefer a veneer to go with it, snakewood with a white veneer is gorgeous, i have padauk with a white veneer.

      cocobolo, aboyna burr, purple heart they all look nice as a single splice with veneers.

        all those mentioned above I would also suggest;
        also red mallee, camphor, (good ol') thuya burr

        because of the rosewood butt, I would suggest staying with red/brown woods and not the light woods such as olive, karelian birch, etc.
        Up the TSF! :snooker:

          Of course with some shaft materials, you just have to stay with Ebony for the front splice. .

                    Yep, and not for me, I might add. I have thought about asking him if he wouldn't have a nervous breakdown at the thought.

                      Really like the ebony and Purple Heart, or even a purple veneer, how much would it be likely to cost for a single splice made up of ebony sandwiching Purple Heart?
