  • Blind buying vs trying a few first

Why do so many of us order a cue online and hope it feels right?
I have been looking at Greenbaize a lot and they have a great set up for buying cues. They admit on their site that GBL cues are Thai made as well as most of the stock. You can spend all day trying out as many cues as you like on the full size snooker tables and from what people say the owner won't tell you a pack of lies just to get you to buy a more expensive cue. It sounds like it really the place to go when buying a cue. Makes me wonder why people buy blind and spend a fortune on a cue that may or more likely may not suit.

I think most people will prefer to try the cues before making the purchase.

Even when buying blind, i will try a few of the maker's cues to have a feel before placing an order, and then hope for the best.

I tried a couple of Trevor's cue before ordering. Still waiting for it to arrive.

Because if you are intent on a certain brand of cue you have virtually no choice

correct - also if people are honest about it you can learn to use most cues.

I know one thing. It's really difficult to get a cue that suits. Do you really know from the first ball you hit if it's the right cue or not? As you say, most people can get used to any cue.

We are not born with a cue attached, it's like learning to walk all over again, people just don't give cues enough time, you should find out if it does most of the things you want,it's very rare your going to find one that does 100% of what you try, that's my opinion, lol

no jim we are not, but a lot of people buying a cue after learning to play dont want to go through the process of adapting again

Finding 2 cues that play similar is already a tough challenge.

agreed but similar is a world away from exact and thats my point you can adapt if they are similar, but why bother if their poles apart

That's cus most people do blame the cue for thr mistakes in this game . It's true , the cue has to suit ur game . It's important.
But he's not gonna do the job for you. Be able to play this game an looking for a cue that suits ur game, IS NOT THE SAME THING AS , someone who can'nt play this game an looking for a cue to correct his mistakes and play this game for him.
each cue plays diff , So ,Even if you try the cue before you buy it, you gonna need atleast a few weeks to know for sure and adjust ur tqnk to that cue.
your arm is the one who's doing the job, NOT THE CUE !!

                        Distance might be a factor?
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I agree it's far to go but if you can spend all day trying different cues and really find one that's exactly what you want then it will be worth the travelling.
I know the exact cue specs I want and as UPS have just lost my JP Elite I now need to get a new cue. I am seriously thinking of spending a few hours at Greenbaize to try and get that perfect cue. It's either that or buy a MW tiger to my spec because his cues have such a good reputation.

Spoke to a guy last night who we played in the league and he had just purchased a JP Superior to his spec, extensions and a JP leather case.

I his match going for a deep screw he managed to jump the ball off the table over the black which cost him the match when the other guy then got stuck in.

Afterwards I asked him what tip he uses as he normally moves the ball around well historically and he just said he used the one that came with the cue.

I asked him what he normally uses and he said whatever the guy in the club puts on. I couldn't believe he had spent so much time getting what he felt was the right cue, never tried it prior to purchase and used the tip it came with.

The tip must be up there with the cue or surely it's just caution to the wind overall?

I took a 200 mile drive to greenbaise today, left early got there 9:30,Stu opened early so I had just under 4hrs!! Trying over 50 cues, I narrowed it down to 10, then down to 2!! How many years would that have took to have them made then tried?. Why O why didn't I do this before??.. It's a no brainer if you need a cue, a place where you can try MANY top quality cues in a fantastic environment Stu knows his stuff and seems a great guy and basically let's you get on with it, For me I agree I could get on with many cues if given the most important ingredient... TIME!! which I haven't got. But let me tell you one thing, I found a cue that feels completely right for me today! Harry Potter got fitted for his wand!! Lol would recommend this way for most!!
