    Many thanks

Kevin. When you are ready call me and I'll advise you on cue maintenance and find a decent reasonably cheap cue for you. F.

Kevin, what will be your budget when funds come together bud? I'm not trying to sell you anything, just wondering because I'm sure members can find you a decent cue without varnish on the shaft but what cue this will be does depend on your budget.

You will get sorted with a decent oil finished cue for that Kevin, that won't need any sanding or any touching up really, an unbadged Butters could be ideal and with a fair wind you might have enough change for an extension.

can't say I've seen that abdge around... but then again, I'm not in the UK. might be better to wait for some input if you're actually considering whether to buy that.... unless it was just a comment about the cosmetic...

I'd have a look at the Grand cues on ebay before going for that one http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Grand-cues?...p2047675.l2563 I bought one of those Chinese cue and extension packs and TBH they seem like a better deal than they are, the telescopic extensions are crappy plastic things that bend and the case isn't really much better, the cue will move around in it if you don't add something to keep it still.

I'd try and spend most of your money on just a cue for now, then maybe get a push on extension and a case later, just my 2p.

These are Chinese made (not saying that is a bad thing, just so you know) and you can see that the butt is made separately from the shaft, as the butt wood does not in anyway match the splicing on the shaft.
A friend has one of these sets and they are lightly varnished so not too sticky down the shaft; but his butt wood is a lighter brown colour to the black/brown on the shaft and obvious when put together. The case is pretty solid and he has the two metal extensions that are a very nice design and I wish I could get them on their own to fit my cue's joint
For the money probably a nice set to get started with. Of course you cant try it out before purchase.

have you taken Frank up on his offer yet? I would take time out to see Frank at his "snooker Wonderland" in Worthing, it is a fantastic place and make sure you have plenty of time on hand, as Frank has so many stories and information time just flies by (when I popped in it was on the way home from a family holiday and could not stay much longer than we did
Highly recommend a chat with Frank before you decide

I have done this with a lot of cues and after my mates felt the result that I got they asked me to do the same. I first did it to my own cue when I started playing as it became quite sticky and I had actually resorted to using a glove to lower the friction from it. I followed Mike Wooldridge's guide on refinishing my cue with oil and it worked very well. I only used raw linseed oil to finish mine as I was on a budget but it works very well indeed with about three coats.
