  • Keith Auld Cue

Hi, I am thinking of buying a new cue and a local cue maker called Keith Auld popped up on google, has anyone heard of him?

he charges like 250 - 500 per cue and I am a little concerned spending that much money and his cues are a bit pants. Any advice on a particular cue maker I should try? I am not sure of getting a cue delivered as I cant feel the weight of feel of the cue etc#

    thanks in advance

now there's a name from the dim and distant past; I was not a member of TSF when Keith was but from what I have seen in many threads from that time he had a bad time some years ago and "may" have disappeared with some peoples' money; also his cues were not that good - "oval in section" if I recall one review, poor finish, etc.
Now, that was some years ago so he may be better now and produces nice cues.

I look forward to reading anyone else's more recent information.

Not slagging him off, just repeating what happened in the past to give you information to help with your decision.
Have you found anyone local to you that has a cue made by him recently? Have you asked around any of the clubs, etc?
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

I would thoroughly recommend contacting Andy Travis on this forum if you want a great cue for that price

For that money there is a lot safer options out there. To many bad reviews on this site about his cues. I was in a similar position looking for a cue but don't know who to trust. I did my own research and with asking a few people on here I decided on a cue from Mike Wooldridge.

From what I understand there are a few cue makers on here that can make a cue within 4 weeks and others that will take a lot longer.

          Good luck

thank you for your advice, I will ask around the local club tonight I have a game I saw Mr Woolridge cues too.

I have a few things to research about weight and length before committing to purchasing a £500 pound cue

              Where are you based?

If you are anywhere near (by near I mean within 100 miles) Stockton then I would go to Greenbaize as Stu has a massive range of cues that you can try out on his full size tables. They range from £200-£600 ish. Well worth the trip as many members on here will tell you

                loooollllllll

he disappeared from this forum as quickly as he appeared. i'm pretty sure the reason for his rapid disappearance was a life threatening illness and had nothing to do with the sh*t cues he sent people

you could choose just about anyone and get a better cue so i'd file that under a bad idea if i were you...

I did read a thread a while back where he was calling out other cue makers for face to face 'Cue off'. I'm not sure it happened though. I think he called a few of you guys out if I remember right.

As did the thread titled 'Thaigate' which I wouldn't bother reading if I was you. It's 50 pages of people accusing certain cue makers of cheating the customer and not selling them what they advertise to. Although admittedly a couple of makers were caught out.

I live on the South coast and was talking about Keith the other day and asked a well known person as to his whereabouts. I was told he doesn't make cues any more which surprised me as he still has a couple of websites running so not sure if he does or not. It would be a bit strange if he doesn't but keeps the websites online?

The guy said that his members struggle to get cues fixed nowadays as he hasn't been seen for a while?

I did see a strange website almost all in chinese (i think) with Keith and another cue maker from this country (can't remember who that was either!); that was a couple of weeks ago.

                      So, mixed information down here!

I emailed him a couple of years ago about cue making and he invited me over to watch him do a whole cue but when I took him up on it he never replied so I can only guess he stopped doing his cue making workshops.

I heard he had attended an annual craft fair with all sorts of old skills but I missed that so will see if he's there this year.

also, recall him talking about craft fairs, etc; and also the challenge to other cuemakers, which never came about (now was that because he had some takers and chickened out?
