Don't be silly, that would mean making a decision lol

Please don't say that about the 10mm cue, think my heart is set on that one? (Not because it's 10mm but for the cue itself) Others earlier in the thread said 10mm will be fine?

How common is it for the joints in a 3/4 cues to have issues that need fixing?

10mm will be fine, you are purchasing a top quality cue. No need to have these worries. You need to be really unlucky to get problems with joints or anything else.

I'd usually agree pottr but a pensioner at my club just bought himself a new 1 piece cue with 10mm tip, he's over 70 years old and been knocking in 50s and 60s with it! He plays nice and simple, always leaving himself angles, nothing flash.

Didn't Ebdon used to play with an 11mm tip?

Quite common, they become unaligned due to over tightening, and can come loose for the same reason, easy fix.

Does it take months or years for this to happen, and when you say easy fix, I guess that means sending it off to a professional cue maker to fix and costly?

Not sure about common, I've not known anyone myself and my old cue was a 3/4 Parris and never had any issues and that's 25 years old. Stop worrying DM lol

                        only seen it once
a friend who is generally heavy-handed, and not just the 3/4 joint but also over screwed the mini butt and pulled the wood off the joint. he also has broken several push-on tele-extensions by over tightening the blue collar
                        forget about it DM

When I say common, more so in lower end cues, cheaper joints that never seem to tighten fully so the user keeps over tightening, you'll see these offenders on any given night tightening it on every shot becomes a habit. In a decent well made cue that's been well looked after you should be fine.

                              • Stu @ GBL said he could take the Niche Ultimate's 10mm tip down to 9.7mm, would that spoil the cue in any way from the original design and creation? From a playability point of view?
