  • taper or not

    Hi

I bought a new cue before Christmas, its a maximus legend plus. Spec 59.5 tip is 9.5 and the butt is 29.5 weight 18.5

Finding the flex a lot stiffer than my old cue, couldn't even break off without hitting the pack thick. I'm slowly getting better with practice but some shots still struggle with.

Would tapering my cue give it a little more flex or is it a case of perseverance.

    Ian

I would think it's your aim what's out now to do with flex, your thinking it's going to flex and it dont,so adjust your aim a bit.

There's always a period of adjustment with any new cue, keep practising and it'll gel soon

It's could be my aim, but I do struggle with screw shots now and getting the cue ball moving round the table.

So do you think that even if it is a stiffer shaft with practice I will manage shots like my old cue D M

I'm confident with practice you'll adjust to the new cue yeah, out of curiosity what were the specs of your old cue?

Not a huge difference in specs, practice practice practice

a friend has a modern(ish) Peradon and some time ago he asked me if it was possibly to deal with it as the shaft felt chunky on the bridge and not much feel on the shot. After a discussion I sent it to Andy Travis to be trimmed down in the shaft to a slimmer taper.
He now loves the cue BUT, smythe, remember you cant put the wood back after it is taken off

I'm not saying do one thing or the other, but I reckon you either click with a cue or you don't, you can play with any cue, but clicking with one is done pretty quickly IMO .
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I would do it at a last resort Dean h, I just wanted to know if tapering it would give it more flex like my old cue. Did it make a bid difference on how your mates cue played after getting it done. Ian

Everybody blames the cue, no disrespect but I used to go round pubs and sold cues, we usually played a frame of pool and if customer won he would usually buy the cue if he lost the cue got the blame as you can imagine I never won many of these games.
