  • Mike Wooldridge Tiger

My MW Tiger arrived on Monday so thought I would give my review of it.

i couldnt find a fault with it. Not that I expected too but normally on 99% of cues the splicing are noticeably different lengths. Not on the Tiger.
The finish was silky smooth. But the real surprise was how good it felt. Mike claims to have the best playing cues around and I can't argue with him. The cue feels so good when hitting the ball. I was worried that it would take a while for me to get used to but after a couple of hours it was like I had been playing with it for years. I played a match on Thursday night and the cue got a lot of praise. Especially the shaft, as seen in the pictures the shaft has nice evenly spaced chevrons that look great. The MW super tip that comes as standard is awesome. It holds the chalk better than any tip I have used before.
I highly recommend buying a cue from Mike because you will not be disappointed.

Another reason I went for an MW cue was that I found very few negitive reviews on his cues. Unlike other top cue makers. I had done a lot of research over the last 8 months especially on eBay and found only 2 MW cues for sale in that time. Unlike the many other top brand cues that are constantly being sold for various faults.

Nice cue, the shaft could be mistaken for a laminated one.

I'm guessing you feel the same way about your MW as I?
            What did you get?

You had it a while or you decide to get it instead of keeping the Parris?

I've 3 cues. The Parris, The Wooly and The Trev.

The Parris, forgetting the butt issue has by far the best finish on any cue Ive ever had believe it or not. The shaft finish is the best I've had on a new cue. The only finish that is on a level is when I sent a cue I no longer have to Andy Travis. Travis is so under rated imho.

The wooly is black legend... I have to agree with you, its flawless. Probably the 'best made' cue I've had. Cant really adapt to the black spin ferrule though. Sighting and not seeing a lump of brass is off putting. In amongst the balls you really can see how it effects shots with side.

The Trev is on a totally different level from a play-ability point of view (which is purely subjective I know). The shaft isnt particularly pretty, the butt is totally jet black - not macassar either - but in terms of how it hits.... its awesome. Every single person who's had a knock with it agrees it has 'something'. I guess its an amazing lump of ash. Not a looker but an amazing player.

                    Cheers,
It's definitely a great cue. I've only had it a week so I don't want to say it's the best cue I've ever had but it's certainly on its way.

That's all you can ask for in a cue. I agree AT is underrated, I've not owned one but have seen some crackers he has produced. As I said I can't fault MW and the cue he has made for me. It feels right and plays amazing. The hit is perfect. I couldn't change to the blackspin as I didn't like the look of it and love the traditional brass look. It's how a cue should be.

Did JP sort the badge out. It looked a nice cue apart from that bit. I'm very surprised it left his shop like that.

My Black Legend is extremely well made. It also hits the ball beautifully and is every bit the player Mike said it would be. I do have the Blackspin system and I think the Blackspin tips are extremely good. I never notice the ferrule during playing, it's not something I ever look at.

                          Hi,
Im new to the forums. Well, ive been a regular viewer but this is my first post.
Im in search of a new cue after misplacing my original cue. Im more of a English pool player than a snooker player. Ive been looking at the Mike Wooldridge cues and The Tiger cue looks amazing, as anybody had any experience using one for pool. I tend to use a tip anywhere from 8.5mm to 9mm.

Mike made me a Legend with a 10mm tip and even though I am playing 2¼ inch balls I have no trouble playing with it and it is without a doubt the best cue I have ever played with. It has a blackspin ferrule with blackspin tip and I can play with side with hardly any deflection and draw the ball back the length of a 9' table with ease when in the past I have always struggled.
I had a Parris Classic and a Trad and I did not like the way they played and I wasn't going to wait years for an Ultimate.
I read on here about MW cues and I bought a custom for snooker in the UK but I found the tip at 9mm just too small for US pool so that is why I sold it on ebay a couple of months ago and I kept my Legend.
I love playing with it and it will do me well until I cannot play any longer.
