A friend of mine has one of those cheap cue slicker things, it doesn't half take the dirt off and make your cue smooth, I was very sceptical about them but it really works.

I used to use it carefully and didn't have any issues apart from not lasting long.

It's kind of a tube shape Tommy, open at both ends, you just rub it up and down the shaft, I don't know if you could wash them to de clog them or if they just don't last long. One of the lads at the club( good century maker) uses one of those green pads for the washing up, he swears by it, I'm not sure on it , might be a bit rough, I would like to know from a cue maker or experienced players if these are ok.This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I always fit the next size up and cut down without any over hang (mushroom).

I wouldn't use wire wool to clean the cue, a little soap on a damp flannel to take off the dirt and then buff with a dry towell is all you need about once a month.
Some cues are just too smooth and will get sticky very quickly, maple is a perfect example, can get it very smooth as the grain is so fine, some makers finish ash shafts to a very fine smooth finish, I for one do not. It's best to have the shaft so that you can feel the grain if you turn it in your fingers, you won't feel it as it runs along your bridge but those tiny little ridges between the grain and the wood mean that there are tiny gaps between your skin and the shaft so it doesn't feel as sticky as one that's been finished down glass smooth.
It's an organic substance wood, you need to feel that, connect with it, too smooth and the cue may as well be made of metal or plastic.
