Yes it is. Karl, why do you need to use wire wool, what's happening?

Could be wrong cannonball but I think it's ment to completely take the dead skin and unseen dirt off your cue without damaging it was going to try myself but since I never relly heard of anyone doing it I didn't bother but if it's the case where it works I'm wondering how often could it be done without damaging the cue ??

I use it as it leaves the cue lovely. I used to use a damp cloth but that eventually took the grain filler out and was a little uncertain if it was good for the cue or not as some people advise against it.

My hands sweat a bit so I keep a little bit in the case and use occasionally.

Whether that's right or wrong I'm sure there will be varying answers.

I've used the damp cloth and nothing cleans as well for me. But I have switched to a dry cloth and a more shiny cue. It doesn't cue as smooth because it's not as clean. For that I will use some meths now and again, then re-oil. I'm with you Tommy, wire wool is slightly abrasive so I wonder if you use this each time you play, does the cue lose girth eventually?

It's difficult for me to answer whether the grain gets damaged with this method? I re-grain and re-oil every few months as I like the feel afterwards and it doesn't take long.

It's difficult to know if the 0000 grit takes any wood off. Everyone has said it doesn't but I guess that would have to be judged over time. My cue has as slightly smaller diameter shaft so hard to judge.

I guess I should photograph the shaft next time I do it and then again a couple of months later to see if there is any difference.

Maybe J6 can tell us if it's good for cleaning? I've heard of some cue makers using 0000 in the finishing process tbf.

                    Wire wool

I use it for shining the ferrule and for cutting back after oiling. It's still abrasive so I wouldn't use it to regularly clean a cue, a slightly damp cloth and a dry cloth should do the job.

That's what I used to do. I'm struggling to remember which cue maker told me not to use a damp cloth and just use the 000 steel wool. I know MW used it in his oiling process as his secret step!

                        Wire wool

now what did happen to me I seen my coach pj nolan only seen him once so far just to get the right advice to try advance and at the end of the lesson you get a score sheet one part of it is the cue and he wiped cue with a very fine sandpaper and it felt gorgeous now I'm not sure what grade it is but after I noticed it getting less smooth I wipe my cue numerous times during a frame and relly wash my hands every hour and I find the cue for the first half of frames run like glass so I would like to try when wire wool if it could achieve the same smoothness so it runs the same and lasts a bit longer

It'd be interesting to know what sandpaper grade he used? Love his website by the way......

If 0000 wire wool or 3000 paper just takes the sweat off great; love to hear it from a few long term cue makers for confidence!
