I'm amazed that so many use Parris, I just don't get it! :biggrin-new: Then again, most footy players probably use Nike and Adidas as well. Respect to Ding for going back to his Stamford and what a great job they did on refurbing his cue. I guess to some extent it doesn't matter; they're all made from brittle, oven wood. :biggrin-new:

The list has surprised me a little. There are so many cue makers out there but the top 16 are rife with Paris so that's gotta say something.

What I would be interested in would be if the list changes if you went out to the top 32, 64 or 128?

Do you think it would be the same?

I very much doubt they know of any other makers unless someone is local to them as in the case of Bingham or the Scottish boys and Exquisite

The current top 16 I have:
          Mark*Selby - Stamford
Stuart*Bingham - Gary Taylor with SightRight
          Judd*Trump - John Parris Special
          Shaun*Murphy - John Parris
Neil*Robertson - John Parris Classic (was his dads modified (lengthened?) by P Hanley with some splices)
          John*Higgins - Exquisite
Mark*Allen - John Parris Ultimate (possibly #1068?) with multiple tulip/veneer/tulip splicing
          Ricky*Walden - John Parris Ultimate
Ding*Junhui - Stamford (back to using his old Stamford which was recently refurbished (more like rebuilt) by Stamford )
Ronnie*O'Sullivan - John Parris Ultimate (spliced with Traditional style)
          Joe*Perry - John Parris
Marco*Fu - Kevin DeRoo (tried some others recently, Wright for one)
Mark*J*Williams - Acuerate (question - has Mark J gone back to JP? last time I saw him playing it looked like the Acuerate)
Barry*Hawkins - John Parris Classic (has since 14yrs old)
Martin*Gould - Aeon with SightRight fitting
          Kyren*Wilson - John Parris

Yep, they (and others) have been seen at various makers recently, on FB, getting cues made but the list above is what they are currently using (tomorrow - who knows

yep, and interesting that both of these where in the family from a very early age

          Top 16:
          1. Parris - 9 = 56.25% (62.5% if MJW has one) - as I have always said JP has been the master of promoting and advertising his wares since the early 80s (hooking up with Steve Davis at the time did not hurt)
          2. Stamford - 2 = 12.5
          5x single occurrence

outside the top 16 - gaps of unknown cue makes crop in
          top 32:
          1. Parris - 15 (no MJW) - 46.9%
          2 Stamford - 5
          3. Exquisite - 4
          2 Acuerate - 2 (with MJW)
          5x single occurrence

          top 64:
          1. Parris - 22 34.4%
          2. Stamford - 6
Exquisite & Acuerate same as above
          12x single occurrence
          18x unknown

          full tour
          1. Parris - 28 21.4%
          2. Stamford - 6
Exquisite & Acuerate same as above
          Mike Wooldridge & H&Ob 2 each
          17x single occurrence
          70 unknown

I need to get a life!

Yeah, how many cues does Parris give to the bottom 64 do you wonder? Would that influence the number of Parris cues used by the bottom 64? :biggrin-new:

That's a good question. At their level, the right cues the right cue I would think regardless of free or paid for. If someone puts a free cue in your hand you'd certainly give it a go but if it didn't do it for you it would end up on the shelf I would think.

Obviously they're using them as they feel it suits.

Always thought Martin Gould played with a Parris 3/4 with the Sight Right fitted to it??

yep I had JP with a question mark on it, but his recent interview with CuesportClub he says it is an old Aeon he has had for many years (since 96?), it is maintained/tipped/etc by JP and with SighRight added.
not saying MG does not have a JP cue or two, but the Aeon is the one he currently plays with

Dean. Great list mate, really does raise a few questions as Cannonball says.

I wonder if many of them sought out a Parris or the other way around? Either way they like what they see!

I already had it down as an Ultimate, just the badge number queried
thanks for the info and the mauve veneer (have you seen it close up or ?), I had it as black(ebony) veneers, difficult to see from a distance

I would put most down to JP being the only cuemaker they (or their parents) had heard when they were young (i.e. off BBC) and starting out, before they knew anything better/else/otherwise

There was a close up of his cue in the final of player championships when talking about his cue going to Parris's to be sorted. I rewound footage on sky+ HD and it looked like a dark mauve/purple(might be black?) veneers but 100% a Ultimate and number was 1652.

The snooker players don't grow up using JPUs, they use other cues first and are given JPUs when they break into the top 32. e.g Ronnie was on a Burwat first I believe and Trump used a Cue Craft to break on to the scene. I still think he played his best stuff with his CC. Ding was given a JP I believe but didn't like it.
