  • Storing Snooker Cues

I have a few cues now and shafts that may or may not turn into something if I ever start cue making!

For you cue makers and collectors who have a reasonable collection, how do you store them to stop them warping?

I know you can hang them or put them in a collectors rack or a circular stand but I was wondering what other methods people use especially shops etc or even manufacturers.

Do they get a square board like I've seen in Thailand shops and drill lots of holes and stand the cues up in them, lean lots of cue blanks against an inclined straight board some other method?

With the weather like it is I would lie to check other peoples thinking just in case there's a better way so I don't ruin any perfectly good cues!

I guess that's one way but the floors gotta be flat.

I haven't seen any of the cue makers workshops with cues laid flat in various positions but there's one on the list

Should be easy enough to make an upright cue stand from drilled boards in a supporting frame.

          Yeah I agree.

My question is really around what other people who have a sizable collection or make cues (so need to store blanks) do.

I can think of ways but am interested what people do that have been around for a while to see if there are any interesting ideas.

Cues should always be laid down somewhere flat, like a case. Obviously, if you've got a lot of cues, they go under the bed. Turn them over 180 degrees every six months. Never rack em, they will warp eventually.

I hear a lot of nonsense about cues and why/how they bend, heat and moisture nothing more.
There's absolutely no reason to lay cues down!

                      "Nice Rack!" as they say.

That's a fantastic collection and thanks for sharing a nice picture.

I have had a few cue blanks laid down under the bed for a year now and some of them have moved where I haven't kept an eye on them and I don't like too much heat so may have been affected by moisture in the winter or just that the floor isn't completely flat (I haven't turned them)?

I'm struggling to see why the ones in the rack would warp if they are stored vertical with no tension above the butt but would be interested to understand why?

Any chance of a another pic or two, so we can see what is in there?

                            Already drooling.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                            I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
