The only way this would be funded normally would be by the cue makers themselves, generally all schemes of this ilk are self funded.

I cannot see any current established cue makers doing this as they already have a business that is thriving and don't need the approval of any scheme as sound an idea as it maybe.

There's no safety aspect to this so the rubber stamp as such would be voluntary and I can't see anyone opening themselves up to any annual testing or otherwise.

Here's a link to how the Americanc go about it. I have met most of them and have had cues made by a few. There is a standard way of working

Most of them? I would say there are close to one hundred cue makers in America. Here is a round table in case anyone is interested.

Believe it or not, I have met most of these guys at the table and many others at the SBE, USA over the years. It's not like we're best friends but in passing we have shared the odd joke and serious banter about their cues (not cue making as I can't).

            My custom cues:
Wayne (RIP), Diveney, Crown, Jacoby. Will be ordering a Dzuricky as soon as he is taking orders again
            Cases: Jack Justis, Ninja, Castillo
All of which ARE NOT FOR SALE!
            ---
I have found it easier to work with the US cue makers than the UK snooker cue makers.
When I go state side I can see with my own eyes the quality of their work and hit a few balls with their cues?
There is nothing in the UK that is representative of this type of dialogue. UK cue makers seem a little over protective about their work...
Perhaps there should be a UK exhibition for cue makers? :snooker:

This is a great video and I remember seeing it last year, a must watch for any cue making enthusiast. It's a great shame there isn't a UK equivalent as that would be a good watch!

Cheers for the link. I recall this video from many years ago and not found it since.
                Thanks

Cues by Scruggs, Olney, Thoroughbred, Cash, Blackcreek, Gilbert and Joss. Cases by OnQ, Flowers (JB) and Murnak. Have also owned lots more. I have to say that most of my dealings were great and that the quality of custom workmanship is outstanding. And lots of mine are for sale since I don't play pool any more.

I don't play AP anymore either, but could be persuaded by a scruggs - pm me a price if you're looking to sell.

You're welcome. I was going to link it earlier in the year, during my spat with narl, but some people are too tedious to educate, so i didn't bother.

Good idea. There definitely needs to be a place where prospective buyers can try before they buy. There's not a chance in hell I'd drop over a hundred quid on a snooker cue without trying it first.

Very jealous of your cue exploits. Would love to do a proper tour of the states...As for custom cases, I'd only ever buy a Barton, but the crazy mofo won't sell me one lol.

Talking of JB cases, keen Barton watchers should have a gander at this one - the last ball is golden.

That's the very thing Mr. Big Shot...
Paying £100's on a cue before I've even played with any of their products simply can not happen in my world.
RE; "Proper tour of the Staes." The first time I went over there to play pool - Met some crazy people (who are now friends) and we hit the East Coast road and did 4 States in 3 days, playing pool 24/7 - It changed my perception of the world.
                          ---
You should do your best to get out there Mr. Big Shot.
The state (no pun intended) of pool out there is not great anymore, but there is a huge community.
They take gambling to whole new level, with guys who end up sleeping under tables and much worse...
East Coast and Mid West are probably best for shooting Pool, but the West Coast has got VEGAS BABY - nuff said :snooker:

maybe go to clubs like the snooker academies and Frames etc once a year where all makers bring along their wears to try/buy/order?

They would make great starting points Dean...
The venue could run a 16 man knock out on a first come first basis alongside the cue exhibition :snooker:

Seen you say this before but for the life of me I cant understand it. Why not buy a cue online that you fancy and if when you have it and don't like it send it back? All it'd cost you is the postage and by law you have it for 30 days on trial.
