Omin cue.

Have you had a go with the Chinese Omins JRC?, I always think they look good for the money, but I have never read a review about them,probably very stiff though ,as seems to be the norm now.

I've said it before and will again, this is the cost you pay for Steam dried ash, dried down to 5% in a month. It's rock with no life left in it. And unfortunately, that's the way cues are going to be for a long time because no-one is standing up for quality timber.

You may well be right Splasher, I genuinely don't know. I hope it's not the way cues are going,as I got one and it really is like hitting the ball with a metal bar, it might be ok with a very soft tip on it but I like a hard pressed tip, so the cue( while being a nice cue) just isn't for me.

If your asking about my Omin ,I honestly don't know( will check next time in the club) I bought it off BigAndy on here about four years ago, it's only 57 inches and I have settled on a 58, but it's a player alright, cracking cue, but I think it's a Chinese one ,one of the first to be Thia supervised I think . I honestly don't think it's a pure Chinese cue , just by the flex in the shaft and the hit on it but I could easily be wrong, I remember Andy saying he wasn't sure but had bought them in good faith as an Omin original cue. Could it be a Union? But I know the badge had Thai supervise, or supervised on it, to be honest if I could get that cue in 58 and a one piece I would bite someone's hand off for it.
The poker stiff cue I have is Grand Cue (emperor) I got it at a very good price( cheaper than my very cheap Grand cue) so took a punt on it, it's a lovely made cue and has a nice vibe when tapped on the side , but boy it's got a hard hit to it, so it's not for me nowadays .
For my own info, is it possible to turn a three quarter shaft into a one piece cue? Or at worst what kind of price is it to get an inch added on to the bottom of your cue, it's plain ebony so no splicing needed, thanks.

Do you rate the grand cues then? I have seen a few about but never paid much notice to them.

The newer Thia supervise ones, I'm not so sure are, all this mess has really ruined Omin, in a way. I wouldn't like to pass coment on Omin Chinese cues, but for the money the pictures look nice.
I got a basic grand cue that plays really nicely, and an emperor that's too stiff for me, but again I can't say what you would like, but I would say I found both cues nicely put together, splicing was even and even the low end one was made from black ebony as I sanded it back( that is their main drawback , the finish is lacquer not oil)

I know a cue doctor who will add two ebony butterfly splices for £35 and replace any vaneers on top. but he's 500 hundred miles from you unfortunately. Probably about £200 if you go Parris, MW, TW.

I haven't got a clue lol, I can't even make a splinter out of wood , but I'm thinking along the lines of a bit of rough cut 2x2 and half a dozen six inch nails, I take it ,it can't be done then , you can call me a stupid fecker if you want ,I can take it

I would have thought you could turn a 3/4 to a full size by splicing both parts and adding new wood in between.... if you had the skill/know how.

That's why I bought a load of different cheapish cues, I was trying to find out what I wanted, if I could get my playing cue I'm using now in maple ,that would be me happy, if not I'm sticking with this one.

Just length. Turning a 3/4 into a one piece and retaining the original shaft, I dunno, has it ever been done? I'd imagine it would require a huge amount of splicing and joint work. An internal bolt joining the two pieces of wood together, then planing the joined cue on four sides, then splicing and more rear splicing at the butt end to lengthen the cue?

I thought it would be easier, you see them fix a snapped shaft no probs, so thought you could join a butt to a shaft or join a piece of ash to the shaft then resplice as if it was a one piece shaft.

No need to re-splice it. Get the brass joint out and insert a plug and glue it all back together as a one piece easy peasy.
